FaZe take down Envy, advance to upper bracket finals
The first upper bracket semifinal in North America matched Envy up against FaZe Clan. Envy came in as the higher seed, and both teams came in lightning-hot, having each won a Challengers event to qualify themselves. In the match of styles, it was FaZe’s pace that won the day, helping them dominate Icebox and pull out the win as well. Envy will now match up against Luminosity Gaming in the lower bracket, while FaZe have advanced to the upper bracket finals.
Starting out on one of FaZe’s favourite maps, Icebox, we saw Envy come out with a Sage-less composition, always difficult to make work on the map. Throughout the half, FaZe would repeatedly hit the A site, with their aggression and knowledge of the map paying off. They didn’t plant B a single round, forcing things on A and making it work nearly all the time. Killjoy lockdowns from Pujan "FNS" Mehta provided essentially Envy’s only win condition, and the half ended 9-3.
Envy would manage to make some things happen on their attacking side, faking FaZe out nicely to secure a few free A sites and rounds. Ultimately, though, the difference was too much to make up, and FaZe took the big 13-6 victory to start off the match.
Bind was next up, and things started out very well for Envy, taking all momentum after losing the pistol and follow-up. But some great individual plays from Andrej "babybay" Francisty and Jimmy "Marved" Nguyen stabilized things, and rounds would continue to go back in forth in tremendously fast-paced and exciting fashion. A few more plays from babybay would close the half out at 7-5 FaZe.
FaZe moved onto the attack, and kept things at their signature lightning-quick pace. Envy controlled them relatively well, keeping themselves in it, but a single win from FaZe meant they had no money to contest the match point. FaZe took the map 13-8 to pull off the victory, advancing themselves to an upper bracket date with Sentinels or 100 Thieves.
