Gen.G Esports added Shawn "Shawn" O'Riley to help round out their VALORANT roster, which formed as one of the earliest in the fledgling scene. The results have been mediocre for the Canadian side, with a plethora of middling finishes and a lack of titles despite the early investment. With First Strike on the horizon Gen.G will hope that Shawn12590 can provide the needed push to put Gen.G in the discussion for the top spots in North America. The player will replace Loic "effys" Sauvageau in the main roster.

effys was one of the original members of the FRENCH CANADIANS roster that, after being successful in the early days of VALORANT closed beta, got signed by Gen.G. Across 2170 rounds played with the squad he achieved 176 ACS, 0.62 KPR, and 0.96 KD ratio. During his time with the team he was mainly playing Sage, and occasionally swapped between Sova, and later Omen and Breach, becoming the main smoker of the squad.

Shawn12590 started out with Noble where he had little success, in what was little more than a less-than-week-long cameo. After that was Moon Raccoons, where he found limited success, with the majority of it coming in qualifiers or weekly, and monthly tournaments. Most notably Renegades x NSG VALORANT Invitational, where Moon Raccoons qualified and pulled out a top four finish where he posted a strong 220 ACS. Shawn12590 was able to show off his skill on Moon Raccoons, building towards his 233 lifetime ACS and 152 ADR, a substantial tally.

Gen.G have been less than active over the last three months, and will hope that the late addition of Shawn12590 can propel them forward, towards Sentinels at the top of the North American rankings. Shawn12590 is currently 11th on the North American ladder so it appears that the individual skill is there, the question is: can he transition that to the highest level of VALORANT.

Earlier today, after the announcement of Shawn12590 joining the team, the community started quickly speculating whenever the organization is preparing to launch a six-man roster, or someone will leave the team soon, or be benched. The suspicions emerged after effys being the only one among the remaining players of Gen.G who hasn’t interacted with the newest announcement. The player later confirmed his departure from the squad.

Do you think this change will push Gen.G towards becoming title challengers?

The roster for Gen.G is now:

Canada Anthony “gMd” Guimond Canada Danny “huynh” Huynh Canada Michael “MkaeL” De Luca Canada Kevin “PLAYER1” Champagne United States Shawn “Shawn12590” O’Riley
