Gen.G eliminate 100 Thieves from North American Masters contention
The first North American match of the weekend saw 100 Thieves and Gen.G Esports face off in lower bracket action, with elimination on the line. In a result few would have predicted, Gen.G continued their upward trend with a big win, getting huge value from every player. They’ll face the winner of Envy-Luminosity Gaming in the next lower bracket match tomorrow.
The first map was Gen.G, and went how no one would have expected. Gen.G opened up a massive lead on their attack, with the score at 9-2 at one point. 100T managed to hold on until round 19, but ultimately it was a big 13-6 win for Gen.G. Anthony "gMd" Guimond was absolutely crucial for the team, as they burst through 100T’s calculated defense that has worked so well throughout the VCT so far. Joshua "steel" Nissan pulled off a nice clutch, but that was about all the team could muster.
Moving to Ascent, things were much tighter. Early rounds went back and forth, with clutches on several sides. Peter "Asuna" Mazuryk had a big half, pulling off a nice 1v2 clutch to help get his team up 7-5 at the half.
The second half was even more wild. Gen.G evened things up early on, and it stayed that way nearly to the end. 100T struggled a bit in the chaotic situations and it was evident that Gen.G were ready for the strategy of their opponents, but 100T still managed to take plenty of rounds of their own. Massive individual plays from Danny "HUYNH" Huynh and Kenneth "koosta" Suen kept the momentum on their side, though, and ultimately they were too much for 100T to handle. Gen.G took the win to send the First Strike champions packing.
