Version1 have announced that Maxim "wippie" Shepelev will not be attending VCT 2021 - Stage 2 - Masters Reykjavík, as he was unable to attain a visa primarily due to COVID-19 issues. The team will be using Jamal "jammyz" Bangash as a sub.

wippie is a big loss for V1. His stellar Viper played a big part in their Challengers Finals success. V1 clarify that wippie will be rejoining the team after the event, but their chances at success surely go down without him.

His replacement, jammyz, is excellent in his own right though. He's very flexible, primarily playing Jett but also having worked controller + Phoenix/Raze/Reyna roles before. The big question will be what role he plays - will he replace Erik "penny" Penny on Jett, or will he take over wippie's Viper/Killjoy spot?

It's always bad news when a player is unable to attend an event. jammyz will bring a new look to V1, but ultimately they won't be what they were in Challengers Finals. He's just as skilled, though, so there's certainly still potential with this team. It just has to be said that, with not a lot of practice time with their new player, V1 will be a pretty big wild card.

Version1's Masters Reykjavík roster stands as:

United States Jordan "Zellsis" Montemurro Canada Erik "penny" Penny Canada Loic "effys" Sauvageau United States Anthony "vanity" Malasplina United States Jamal "jammyz" Bangash
