The Russian team, M3 Champions, took down Acend in the opening game of the VCT 2022 - EMEA - Stage 2 - Challengers - Main Event Upper Bracket Quarter Finals. They will now face Guild Esports in the Upper Bracket Semi Finals.

Bind

Acend’s pick of the series was Bind. The European team picked the map three times throughout VCT 2022 - EMEA - Stage 2 - Challengers - Main Event Group Stage and won two games against FunPlus Phoenix and G2 Esports, dropping their single loss against FOKUS. M3 Champions made a great start to the competition by successfully preventing the bomb explosion two times in a row. Ayaz "nAts" Akhmetshin and Igor "Redgar" Vlasov had wonderful performances in the opening rounds to get their teams ahead. From time to time we saw M3C’s dominance but Acend still did a decent job. One of the latest additions to the roster, Vakaris "vakk" Bebravičius played a huge role for his team, grabbing 13 kills on Skye and holding a 1.60 rating. M3 Champions had the lead after winning the last round of the half, 7-5. Surprisingly, three players reached double digits. Igor "Redgar" Vlasov with 13 kills, Timofey "Chronicle" Khromov with 12 kills and Nikita "d3ffo" Sudakov with 10 kills on the scoreboard. Moreover, Redgar led his team on defense by dropping 4 first bloods. As expected, Acend successfully defended the bomb site in the first round of the second half but M3C had already planted the bomb which granted them an economical advantage in the second round. The Russian squad played greatly in their eco round and took the victory with 3 Ghosts, a Sheriff, and a Frenzy. Chronicle once again stepped up with Raze in his hands, securing 3 kills to get his team ahead. Interestingly, Acend also won an eco round to stay behind the wheel but after that point, they failed to keep their performance up. M3 Champions won 5 rounds in a row to close out the opening match of the series. It was Acend’s pick so the Russian squad held an important advantage in the Upper Bracket Quarterfinals. Chronicle led his team with 20 kills and a 1.29 rating. On the other hand, Mehmet Yağız "cNed" İpek failed to impress the fans with his Chamber with only 9 kills and a 0.57 rating.

Breeze

The Russian team’s pick for the day was Breeze. They only played it once in this stage, against BBL Esports, and ended in favor of M3C with a score of 13-5. On the other hand, Acend had also played the map once which was against FunPlus Phoenix but they failed to win the map, 13-9. M3 Champions made a great start to the map by winning 4 rounds in a row, all by eliminating all the members on the opposing roster. However, Acend’s defending tactics were efficient in the later stages of the half. At the end of the half, they led the game with a score of 7-5 and secured a small advantage before going into the second half. Ondřej "MONSTEERR" Petrů’s Viper was the most effective piece on Acend team as the smoker had 15 kills and a 1.51 rating. Helping him on defense, Patryk "starxo" Kopczynski finished most of the job with 13 kills but with a fairly low ACS, 232. Except Ayaz "nAts" Akhmetshin, all the M3C members reached double digits again. Bogdan "sheydos" Naumov was the leader with 13 kills on his Skye. The Russian squad started the second half strongly, winning the opening rounds on Breeze. Acend managed to complete a strong comeback by winning five rounds in the second half. Interestingly, they held onto the game mostly with individual performances. It would not be wrong to say that both teams played differently than the regular performances that we were used to. The second half was almost the same as the first half with both teams winning 12 rounds in the end to force overtime. However, M3C did not waste any time and kept the overtime short as they swept their opponents after a 16-14 win on Breeze. Chronicle and sheydos had monstrous performances, grabbing 31 and 30 kills, respectively. The Russian duo carried their teams on their backs to reach the Upper Bracket Semi Finals. MONSTEERR’s 27-kill Viper was not enough for the European team.
