While yesterday saw some of the most anticipated games in VALORANT history, today the VCT 2021 - Stage 2 - Masters Reykjavík got serious as the first knock-out games took place starting with X10 Esports vs Crazy Raccoon as Japan met Thailand.

While much of the start of the game was close, attention was on X10 as they both brought out the somewhat odd pick of Skye on their map pick of Haven and began the game with a remarkable 1v2 pistol round clutch thanks to two turret kills. By round four the game was tied up before X10 once again rushed into the lead leading the Racoons to call their tactical timeout at 2-5.

Despite this prep time, Racoons lost round eight in a flawless fashion but did manage to recover the half before it was too late. A 4v2 retake victory on round 10 put them in the position they needed to claw back in the game to an eventual 5-7 half as X10’s tactical timeout did little to blunt the comeback.

Their hopes to tie it up at the start of their offensive half was dashed, however, as X10 handily won not only the pistol round and a flawless followup but almost cleaned out the whole half with five rounds running putting them onto map point.

This wasn’t the end of it, however, as with just one round needed X10 struggled to close it out losing two 1v1 victories in a row against neth and rion to keep the Racoons in contention before X10 finally found a win on round 22 as they bought four Judges and simply waited for CR to push them.

Map two of Icebox was next which, while it was Racoon’s map pick, is one X10 has been perfectly happy to go to in the past. Once again X10 won the pistol round which they followed up with a quad kill by Patiphan "patt" Chaiwong and a 1v3 by Nutchapon "sScary" Matarat to take the initial lead which Racoons only recovered from thanks in particular to Yusuke "neth" Matsuda.

Over the next few rounds Crazy Racoons opted to only bring out pistols rather than any rifles and yet managed to pull three rounds back as neth hit 13-5 with an ACS of 382 forcing X10 to call their timeout. Racoons then tied it up with a full buy on round 10 only to then lose the half 5-7 once again as round 12 saw An "Medusa" Min-cheol kill Itthirit "Foxz" Ngamsaard in a 1v1 but be unable to defuse in time.

Despite CR’s success with the guns earlier in the map, X10 kept their flawless pistol rounds going and managed to leverage this to an increasingly large lead. While map one saw CR’s comeback attempt start just as X10 hit map point, this time X10 didn’t give them the chance and cleaned it out winning six rounds in a row to take series 13-9, 13-5.

This result came thanks to a particularly strong showing from Patiphan who secured 24 kills to just 11 deaths (a 2.2KD) while Byeon "Munchkin" Sang-beom led the Racoons hitting a 1.0 Rating. Crazy Racoons are therefore the first team eliminated from the Masters 2 event while X10 Esport will go on to face the European team of Fnatic tomorrow in another knockout match as they attempt a very long lower-bracket run through the tournament.
