On September 30th, 2020, a report first surfaced that NRG Esports were looking to get into VALORANT by signing former Gen.G Counter-Strike: Global Offensive players Damian "daps" Steele and Sam "s0m" Oh. Several days ago, the addition of the first was confirmed as daps joined the organization. Today, NRG have officially revealed s0m as their second player.

s0m’s CS:GO career is quite a classic story of a North American prospect - he really stood out in the lower levels of ESEA and MDL, before being picked up to join Team Envy. With Envy, s0m had ups and downs, as the team participated in massive events such as ESL Pro League Seasons 9 and 10, Intel Extreme Masters XIV Chicago, and Dreamhack Masters Malmö 2019, but failed to win any. Upon joining daps and Gen.G though in late 2019, s0m really found his stride. The team won Dreamhack Open Anaheim 2020 before COVID-19 sent Counter-Strike online, and they’ve been quite good in the new environment as well, winning North America’s edition of ESL One: Road to Rio and finishing second in cs_Summit 6 Online in the region.

s0m is one of the few big-name Counter-Strike: Global Offensive professionals to switch thus far, and unlike older names such as Nicholas "nitr0" Cannella and Joshua "steel" Nissan, s0m is still young, at 18 years old, only a few years into his career, and just peaking upwards to success. His switch is a big win for the VALORANT scene, and if he can replicate his Counter-Strike success for NRG, the organization will be a major challenger at the upcoming First Strike.

NRG Esports are now:

Canada Damien “daps” Steele United States Sam “s0m” Oh

United States Chet “Chet” Singh (Coach)
