The first match of the day was between the APAC winners, Paper Rex, and the EMEA representatives, Guild Esports. The European side of the competition decided on the first map to be Ascent but failed to show their strengths throughout the competition. Paper Rex grabbed 8 rounds on the attacking side whereas Guild Esports’ defensive efforts granted them only 4 rounds. Three players of Paper Rex reached 11 kills and Saif "Sayf" Jibraeel tried to carry his team with 15 kills on Chamber, the only one with double digits on the scoreboard. The second half was completely one-sided as Paper Rex won 5 rounds to win the first map of the series in style, 13-4. Guild failed to grab a single round in the second half against the superb defense of the APAC team. Wang "Jinggg" Jing Jie finished the game with 20 kills and a 1.53 rating on Raze.

Despite being Paper Rex’s map pick, Guild Esports showed us better competition on Fracture compared to Ascent. The first half ended in a tie with both teams winning 6 rounds. Just like the first map, Saif "Sayf" Jibraeel led his team on the battlefield with a 1.45 rating as well as 13 kills. Paper Rex’s star player, Jason "f0rsakeN" Susanto grabbed 14 kills with Neon in his hands, which was the biggest factor in PRX’s solid attacks. The Indonesian player also grabbed 2 first bloods and had a 304 ACS. Both sides failed to come on top and the second half also ended in a tie with PRX winning the 24th round to force overtime in their map pick. However, they managed to win both overtime rounds, in the beginning, to close out the series and sweep their opponents. f0rsaken’s dominance also continued in the second half and he finished the game with 26 kills and 8 first bloods. Sayf, on the other hand, held a 1.37 rating and also grabbed 26 kills.

In the battle of two EMEA teams, Fnatic picked Icebox as the first map of the series. FNC and FPX faced each other 3 times throughout VCT 2022 - EMEA - Stage 2 - Challengers - Main Event and Fnatic won every game, including the Grand Finals. Despite continuing the tradition and winning the pistol round, Fnatic fell behind in the middle stages of the first half. FPX managed to win 7 rounds in a row to dominate the game and show their defensive strengths. The CIS team picked up one more round before the end of the first half and reached 8 wins on defense. Ardis "ardiis" Svarenieks picked up where he left off and played another great Chamber half, holding a 1.57 rating and grabbing 14 kills with 5 first bloods. Fnatic showed why they picked Icebox in the first place and dominated the second half as they switched sides. Nikita "Derke" Sirmitev had a monstrous performance with 19 kills on Chamber while holding a 2.48 rating on defense. FNC had a better defensive effort and won the first map after 11 rounds of the second half, 13-10. The Finnish star of the team had 29 kills at the end of the competition.

FPX’s only choice to continue their Upper Bracket dreams alive was to take down Fnatic on Haven. However, things didn't go as planned. Fnatic had a massive lead after the first half, 10-2. The European organization dominated the map on the attacking side and almost made no mistakes in the entirety of the game. Derke once again stepped up with 19 kills and a 400 ACS on Chamber. ardiis tried to stop him with his Chamber but it wasn’t enough even though he grabbed 15 kills including 5 first bloods. Fnatic won 3 more rounds in the second half, including the pistol round, and swept their opponents in Copenhagen. We have seen many matches between these two teams and Fnatic once again proved who the better side is.

The competition will continue with the Upper Bracket competition. Check out the events page for more information.
