T1 have announced today the addition of Byeon "Munchkin" Sang-beom to round out their VALORANT roster.
The South Korean joins after a four month long spell with the Japanese squad of Crazy Raccoon. Munchkin was able to lead them to the finals of VCT 2022 - Japan - Stage 1 - Challengers Playoffs, which they lost to ZETA DIVISION and thus missed out on VCT 2022 - Stage 1 - Masters Reykjavík. He left the team in April and has been a free agent since. His only other professional team prior to that was Cloud9 Korea back in late 2020, which disbanded after a 3rd-4th place finish at First Strike Korea Regional Final. Notably, he played alongside Son "xeta" Seon-ho in that lineup and will now rejoin him under the T1 banner.
The in-game leader certainly has a lot left to prove and his surprise move to North American VALORANT marks another chapter in his career. What he certainly will not have to prove is his firepower, putting up a monster 1.19 rating and 256 ACS over the last three months. He’s seen most frequently on Jett, although he also has Chamber and Reyna in his arsenal and it will be interesting to see how he adapts to the growing popularity of Chamber in the region.
There are also question marks around the in-game leadership role, with Joshua "steel" Nissan having made the calls for the team so far, meaning Munchkin might be freed up to play the duelist role full time. Still, barring any more changes to the roster, T1 now have a reformed squad that has plenty of time to integrate and polish themselves, considering they are out of VCT contention for the rest of the year.
T1 are now:
Zander "thwifo" Kim Joshua "steel" Nissan Josh "pwny" VanGorder Son "xeta" Seon-ho Byeon "Munchkin" Sang-beom
Yoon "Autumn" Eu-ddeum (Head Coach) Dakota "Stunner" MacLeod (Assistant Coach) Dallas "Branchies" Branch (Manager)
