On the last day of August, it was revealed that September will see the biggest to date women-only VALORANT competitive event, the FTW Summer Showdown, hosted by Nerd Street Gamers, Spectacor Gaming, T1, and GFUEL. 8 teams will have a chance to battle for a share of $10,000 USD.

Everything changed on September 10, 2020, just a day before the beginning of the tournament, when Riot Games officially confirmed that the FTW Summer Showdown has become a part of the Ignition Series, with the prize pool being increased tremendously to $50,000 USD and the total number of teams growing from 8 to 12.

With this being said, we’ve gotten to know the full list of the teams participating in the event, with 8 invited and 4 qualified through the Open Qualifier hosted by the GALorants Discord community dedicated to women playing VALORANT. Divided into two groups of six teams, they will play best-of-1 matches during the Group Stage, with the best four of both groups moving into playoffs where they will continue the battle in a single-elimination, best-of-3 format.

Group A

United States MAJKL United States ZENITH United States hamboigas United States Hardstuck United States Team Gfuel United States Dignitas Female

Group B

United States GX3 United States Silhouette United States Chick Fil Ayy Canada Bloom United States Sailor Scouts United States Flawless

The FTW Summer Showdown is giving an incredible chance for all of the women in the community that want to prove themselves in front of the bigger audience. This is also the first time that such an event has become fully supported by the developers and recognized as an official event in the Ignition Series.

It will be also a good opportunity for the viewers to follow the competition among more and less recognized teams and players from the female scene, such as one of the first female Radiant players, Annie Dro from MAJKL, bENITA from CLG (playing for GX3 in this tournament), or the Dignitas roster - known widely in the CS:GO community after their numerous achievements including back to back victories during the Intel Challenge Katowice in 2018 and 2019. The squad expanded to VALORANT in May 2020 with a desire to pursue the competitive level in both Riot’s shooter and CS:GO.

The tournament starts today on September 11th, 2020, with the first game being broadcasted at 5 PM ET / 2 PM PT on twitch.tv/nerdstgamers.
