Since the start of the VALORANT competitive ecosystem, everyone in the community has been waiting for when the tactical shooter’s first major LAN would take place. Of course, it is understandable how difficult it has been to organize such an event with the ongoing pandemic, but it is finally happening.
Riot Games has revealed that the upcoming VALORANT Champions Tour Stage 2 Masters is taking place in Reykjavík, Iceland between May 24th and May 30th, 2021. This will mark the first international VCT event of the year-long program, and it is an incredibly exciting point in VALORANT esports.
Back in July 2020, VALORANT Esports Strategy Lead, Kasra Jafroodi, hinted towards Katowice, Poland as one of the strongest candidates for the first major VALORANT competition. It was a natural selection considering how much history and relation to esports the city has had over the years. Over VALORANT’s time, we’ve seen several regional LANs in Vietnam, Japan, and South Korea, but nothing yet on this level.
For those who are still unfamiliar with the structure of the tournament, the VALORANT Champions Tour will feature three levels of competition: Challengers, Masters, and Champions. Teams begin their journey by first playing in regional Challenger events, before advancing to international Masters events. For this specific Masters event, 10 teams will qualify - two each from Brazil, North America, and Europe, and one each from LATAM, Korea, Japan, and Southeast Asia.
VALORANT is finally getting its first LAN! Who do you think we’ll see qualify? What other cities do you wish to see VALORANT competitions be held at? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
