VCT Stage 2 Masters to be held on LAN in Iceland

Written By    Mostafeto  -  share on

Since the start of the VALORANT competitive ecosystem, everyone in the community has been waiting for when the tactical shooter’s first major LAN would take place. Of course, it is understandable how difficult it has been to organize such an event with the ongoing pandemic, but it is finally happening.

Riot Games has revealed that the upcoming VALORANT Champions Tour Stage 2 Masters is taking place in Reykjavík, Iceland between May 24th and May 30th, 2021. This will mark the first international VCT event of the year-long program, and it is an incredibly exciting point in VALORANT esports.

Back in July 2020, VALORANT Esports Strategy Lead, Kasra Jafroodi, hinted towards Katowice, Poland as one of the strongest candidates for the first major VALORANT competition. It was a natural selection considering how much history and relation to esports the city has had over the years. Over VALORANT’s time, we’ve seen several regional LANs in Vietnam, Japan, and South Korea, but nothing yet on this level.

For those who are still unfamiliar with the structure of the tournament, the VALORANT Champions Tour will feature three levels of competition: Challengers, Masters, and Champions. Teams begin their journey by first playing in regional Challenger events, before advancing to international Masters events. For this specific Masters event, 10 teams will qualify - two each from Brazil, North America, and Europe, and one each from LATAM, Korea, Japan, and Southeast Asia.

VALORANT is finally getting its first LAN! Who do you think we’ll see qualify? What other cities do you wish to see VALORANT competitions be held at? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!

Nice! Hopefully soon we can see every large event on LAN
2021-03-01 12:23
Asia representatives will do their best, looking forward to see the competition against the West! 👍

Only two spots for EU, CIS and Turkey combined? Would've thought Riot would want more than 10 teams also...
2021-03-01 12:25
i'm sure they thought about this one but probably they went for less teams due to logistics reasons? idk, 16 teams would have been nicer but personally I agree; 2 slots for EU/CIS/TR is not enough
2021-03-01 13:09
Yeah honestly take 1 slot away from brazil and give it to cis/turkey imo. Then EU have 3 Total and South America have 2 total. 10 teams seems a little small but I understand the difficulties of having 16 during covid
2021-03-01 16:24
Rn brazil has a bigger scene than CIS and Turkey so I disagree with this statement, there have been 2 really dominant teams in Brazil similar to what TSM and SEN used to be in NA and one of those teams not making it feels kind of wrong. Brazil also has a faster and different pace other regions don't have and I want to see more of how it compares to NA.
2021-03-03 11:35
It's the first master's in general and the first of 3 this year so I think it's reasonable. Once the CIS region gets bigger or gets more attention from live streams it'll probably have its own spots. If a CIS team does really well in the LAN people from NA might follow that team and the CIS region will grow because of it.
2021-03-03 11:33
* i mean if Latam was grouped with NA
2021-03-03 11:34

i see youve never watched gamelanders... dont count them out.
2021-03-01 18:10
I do not doubt them, but I do not think they will end up winning.
2021-03-01 18:13
thats the beauty of this sport. anything can happen 😈
2021-03-02 04:41
one BR team will be top 4 no doubt
2021-03-01 18:20
Let's goooo, i hope no problem with the virus occurs, that would be a disaster especially since it is the first lan, but i doubt riot's protocols would be so sloppy
2021-03-01 20:43
also im excited to see what asia can do, especially koreans dude, they're amazing players, but we haven't really seen them against international contest
2021-03-01 20:48
imagine some Taiwan team from SEA wins it all while every1 is arguing if NA/EU/KR/BR is the bsst 😅😅
2021-03-02 00:58
Would be funny

2021-03-02 04:42
hahaha NEVER
2021-03-02 04:44
if Gambit can Win Katowice, then Absolute Jupiter can win this too
2021-03-02 05:06
Firstly Gambit was more than solid even before Katowice and also Absolute Jupiter will not qualify through SEA, but JP, which is a completely different story.
2021-03-02 16:46
gud
2021-03-02 01:47
cant wait for lan its going to be sickkkkkk
2021-03-02 02:45
rip OCE
2021-03-02 04:52
xddd, don't write them off
2021-03-02 13:08
Riot already written off all Oceania teams lol. They don't have any chances to qualify via NA to VCT.
2021-03-02 15:05
but why? i dont get it
2021-03-02 16:46
Because Riot heavily underrestimates the power of NA and EMEA.
The amount of talent from these regions is much bigger than Brazil / Asia will ever have.

Oceanian teams will have to qualify to VCT Champions by NA events. Do you really think they can beat Envy, SEN, IMT, 100T?
2021-03-03 04:52
In case you don't know what is VCT Champions and what are the slots distributions / regional qualifiers to it, go to Liquipedia and read about it.
2021-03-03 04:53
oce has its own oceania tour the only way for oceania teams to qualify for VCT Champions World Finals is through being top 3 then making it into NA LCQ then come out as number 1
2021-03-03 08:03
I'm sure that Envy and SEN will make it through circuit slots for NA.
100T / LG / all other NA teams will participate in LCQ. Still no chance for OCE xd.
2021-03-03 10:14
unless 100T flops after the replacement of Dicey for Ethann and doesn't qualify in Challengers 3, 100T> Envy. Additionally, there is no more stinger meta which massively hurt 100T.
2021-03-03 11:42
and yes theyll never bear big names so R.I.P
2021-03-03 08:04
What annoys me more is that Brazil and SEA have 2 slots each. Brazil should have 1 guaranteed slot + 1 possible slot from LCQ, same goes for SEA. Riot really fucked this up.
2021-03-03 10:16
GREAT NEWS!
2021-03-02 06:55
damn i wish it were double the spots, but it's understandable why they would want to keep the number of teams as low as possible. still hype as fuck tho. LAN LETS GOO
