Laying out the basics for Gemint

Card rips take place digitally at Gemint, once you’ve decided which pack you’d like to buy. You’ll see a list of what you could pull from each pack, along with live odds. I’ll go into card ripping at Gemint in more detail in a bit, but first, I’ll answer a few questions you might well have.

Is Gemint legit?

Yes – it’s a new site, but the terms and conditions confirm that Gemint is run by J Lab Limited, a fully registered company based in the British Virgin Islands. I also found a short list of prohibited jurisdictions there, covering obvious places such as North Korea and Iran. They’ve imposed a minimum age of 18 years, too. In short, it’s pretty widely available.

Is it easy to use?

It is – the menu at Gemint is basic but it leads you everywhere you’ll want to go. Once you’ve opened your account, you’ll find your profile link via the menu. You can also access the Official Gacha area there to browse the card packs, and the Pack Battle area to look through the head-to-head opportunities. I’ll get to those shortly.

Does Gemint have an app?

No – but it does have a responsive website that changes its format to give you the best look no matter how you’re accessing it. I liked the simple interface anyway – it’s clean and easy to view, which is ideal if you’re new to ripping card packs online at sites like Gemint.

How to get the welcome bonus when you join Gemint

After creating an account, I spotted a Coupon option in the menu. This revealed that I could do three things to receive a $10 coupon:

1. Verify my email (you’ll do this when you open your account)
2. Follow Gemint’s social media account at X
3. Join their Discord community

You’ll see buttons to connect to the latter two. For full details on this and signing up at Gemint, read my Gemint bonus review to see what else you might find there. In short, though, it’s quick to sign up, their verification email arrived almost immediately, and I didn’t need a bonus code to grab the coupon, either.

The coupon is worth $10 and doesn’t require a Gemint bonus code. The verification step is completed during account registration, while the X and Discord tasks can be completed directly from the Coupon section. Once the required tasks are completed, the coupon can be claimed according to the promotion’s terms.

Here’s what you can do at Gemint

I’ll say upfront that some aspects of this trading card site are yet to launch – take Gemint’s Marketplace feature for example, where I suspect you’ll be able to sell your unwanted trading cards to other members. You do have two site areas to check out now though, so let’s look at those here.

Card rips

Card rips is the key feature of Gemint, which you’ll find in the Official Gacha part of the site menu. When I signed up, they had various packs for Pokemon fans to check out. There’s a soccer section too, but it’s currently empty. Cards for One Piece and baseball are confirmed to be coming soon – but there’s no date on those yet. Since Gemint is fresh out of the blocks, I’m guessing we’ll get more categories in future, too.

So… Pokemon fans are best catered for at present, with everything from a cheaper Starter Pack to a pricier Master Pack available. If you choose a pack, you can check out what could be inside before buying it. Don’t forget you’ll need to commit to buying a pack before you find out its contents. Gemint opens it digitally for you, and you’ll then see what’s in there.

The prize list displays all the potential cards, with just one actually appearing if you buy a pack and rip it. Before you do so, you can view each card. Position your cursor over the top of the card and you’ll see more details, confirming the info given to the right of the card on screen:

• Card number
• Grade
• Cert number

The magnifying feature means you can see all this info matched on the card. The Pokemon Champion Pack, priced at $100, has a range of possibilities included, with the top prospect you could pull being the 2019 Pokemon Sun & Moon Unbroken Bonds Greninja and Zoroark GX card, worth $1,499. The live odds unsurprisingly gave me a 0.05% chance of pulling that.

This Pokemon pack also had a chance of pulling five cards worth less than $100 each:

• Two worth $84.99 each
• Two worth $85 each
• One worth $99.99

These are all current values for those Pokemon cards. According to the live odds, Gemint confirms you’ve got a 49% chance of pulling a card worth between $70-$85.

Pack Battles

You can ignore these if you like, but they add a head-to-head aspect to the site. Each battle can involve anywhere from two to four players. You can set up your own or take part in something someone else has created.

In any event, you’ve got three types of battles available, as shown in the below table. Each Pack Battle could have just one round, or anything up to five of them.

There’s a grayed-out Coming Soon panel too, so I guess there’s another type of Pack Battle to come as well. I’ll let you know more when it arrives at Gemint. You can also go for a Fast Battle which offers an instant reveal or go for the standard battle which offers a little drama before the reveal, delaying it a bit.

I noticed there were over 3,500 pages of Pack Battles at Gemint, presumably all ones that have already taken place. It’s a good way to see how it works though, if you’re interested in trying one in future.

You’ll need Discord to access customer service at Gemint

I couldn’t find any live chat anywhere at Gemint, and there’s no FAQ page either. However, I did find an online support area by accident – when I accessed the terms of service for Gemint. This takes you into a help section of sorts, where the T&Cs are covered on one of several pages.

That said, it’s really just an extended T&Cs area. You need to join their Discord community to get some proper support if you ever need it. Since you’ll need to connect with them there to get your $10 coupon, I suggest doing that first, so you can ask some questions there if you want to.

You can also submit a ticket via Discord if you want to, although I think the best bit is being able to chat with other Gemint users, who might be able to help you with anything you’re puzzled about.

Payment info for Gemint

Gemint offers a wallet facility where you can transfer funds from your own crypto wallet – you just need to connect one that’s compatible (they give you a list of 587 to choose from, including Binance, MetaMask, and Coinbase). Thankfully, that’s got a search feature, so you can save yourself some scrolling if you’re looking for a particular wallet.

Alternatively, you can add funds to your Gemint account via Mercuryo, which allows you to use a card or Apple Pay (ideal if you’re visiting on an iPhone or iPad). If you choose this option, you need to deposit at least $21 to your account, as that’s the minimum required to use the Mercuryo service.

My verdict: the best could be yet to come at Gemint

If you’re collecting Pokemon trading cards, you’ll certainly find some promising packs at Gemint. Fans of soccer, baseball, and One Piece have a little longer to wait to see some relevant card packs to rip though. The same applies to the marketplace feature – still coming soon at the last glance.

It’s pretty easy to get your $10 coupon as a new member, especially if you’re already set up on X and Discord. If not, I think it’s worth creating accounts there so you can grab that voucher. Before you do that, you can use a link on this page to arrive at Gemint and look through some of the Pokemon packs they’ve launched with. You might even spot something you’ve been looking for.
