Interactive Brokers Prediction Markets Review 2026: Contracts, Fees, Markets, and Trading Feature

Interactive Brokers is restricted in your area.
Details

Interactive Brokers (IBKR) is a financial company that has recently rolled out a prediction markets platform. In my Interactive Brokers Prediction Markets review, I spotted that event contracts are available through partnerships with ForecastEx, Kalshi, and CME Group.

Unsurprisingly, I didn’t find any sports markets here. Instead, the focus is more on economic and environmental contracts, which fits the theme of Interactive Brokers quite perfectly. Since I last visited the site, there have been a few big changes, so I thought that I’d share what I found. Think along the lines of new markets, price displays, and rebranding.

Let’s explore how Interactive Brokers prediction markets work

No review of mine is going to be complete without a look into how the prediction markets work. After all, that’s exactly what you’re interested in. It doesn’t matter if you’re a beginner or you’ve been doing this for a while; every platform is different. If you want a comparative site, why not check out my recent Gemini review? You’ll soon see how different these two brands are.

Who is Interactive Brokers?

IBKR is a financial company that decided to launch a prediction market platform. The event contracts are available through three major brands: ForecastEx, Kalshi, and CME Group. You won’t need to open an account with any of those sites, though. Everything is funneled through the IBKR platform, which makes everything straightforward. Actually, you probably won’t be able to tell which contracts are linked with which operator. Even after completing my review, the only time I encountered this information was when I was notified of the fees.

What are prediction markets and event contracts?

Prediction markets allow you to buy event contracts that are linked to real-world events. When you buy an event contract, it’s your way of predicting the outcome. The contracts are presented in binary Yes and No formats. So, if you believe that an outcome is going to happen, you would buy the ‘Yes’ contract. Likewise, if you think that the event will not occur, then you would buy the ‘No’ contract.

All event contracts are priced between $0.01 and $0.99. Not only does the price reflect what you will pay, but it also indicates the implied probability. For example, if you buy a Yes contract for $0.66, then this means the market thinks there’s a 66% chance of the outcome happening. If your prediction is right, you receive a $1 settlement. On the other hand, if you’re wrong, your contract resolves at $0.

Fee structure

Every time you buy an event contract, some fees will apply. These fees depend on which platform your event contracts were linked with. Typically, there is a commission and exchange fee, but this is variable:

Partnered OperatorIBKR CommissionExchange Fee
ForecastEx$0$0.01
Kalshi$0.01$0.01
CME Group$0.01$0.01

IBKR has two core prediction market categories

You won’t find lots of individual categories here. Instead, the markets are divided between Economic Indicators and Environmental. Under each tab, you will find a wide array of options, including elections, government policy, commodities, cryptocurrency, and corporate activity. Here’s a quick look at how the markets are split into these two sections:

CategoryMarkets
Economic IndicatorsEducation, housing, interest rates, labor, oil & energy, prices & inflation, and more
EnvironmentalAgriculture, climate change, major weather events, temperatures, and weather

Each market presents useful information and tools

One of my favorite features of IBKR is that under every individual prediction market, you will find a whole host of information, resources, and tools. These are included for you to make informed decisions that aren’t based on pure guesswork. It’s one of the best selections of tools I have ever seen at any prediction market site. And, no, I don’t say that lightly.

For example, under the market for NYC Monthly Rain, I found the following tabs:

  • Related Products: All related prediction markets that may interest you.
  • Tools & Research: Redirects you to a webpage where you can read about the weather patterns in NYC. You will find out about the monthly tornado reports, hail reports, severe wind reports, and more. It’ll give you a full picture of the recent weather in NYC, so you can make a judgment based on real data.
  • News: You’ll find links to recent news reports and articles that relate to NYC weather.

So, what’s new with Interactive Brokers prediction markets?

Remember that I mentioned a few updates had occurred since my last visit? Well, I thought that I’d share a few of the standout features that have recently rolled out. It just goes to show you how much effort is going into building the platform to provide the best possible trading experience.

💰 Price Display

Previously, prices used to be displayed as ‘Best Bid’. This referred to the highest price a buyer had offered for an individual event contract. It’s now been replaced with a ‘Buy Now’ price, which takes a totally different approach. This refers to the lowest price that a user has offered for an event contract. This price is calculated as $1.00 minus the highest bid that was submitted on the opposing contract.

📊 Conditional Contracts

A brand new category that’s recently been added is conditional. It goes alongside the other two core categories, but it offers a unique experience. Here, you will find event contracts that are tied to specific events, as standard. However, you will predict the outcomes that depend on a trigger event. If the condition is not met, then you are refunded the price of the contract, minus any fees.

For example, here’s a recent conditional contract: Hormuz Normalization Impact on US Gasoline Prices.

The above contract asks you to predict the US gasoline prices for a specific month and year. The condition here is that the traffic at the Strait of Hormuz returns to normal within a specified timeframe. Provided that the condition occurs, your contract will go ahead.

I found a decent welcome bonus for new traders

After opening my account at IBKR, I discovered a small but well-formed welcome bonus. This bonus offered me $10 in trading credit. Now, I know that this isn’t a big bonus, especially in comparison to some other sites. That said, it doesn’t require a deposit or any minimum trades. That’s right, it’s totally free! Considering that it’s a freebie, I can’t fault it. Where else can you get a $10 bonus just for turning up and opening an account? You don’t even need to worry about finding an Interactive Brokers promo code.

That means that your first few trades can be on the house. Or, you know what’s even better? It’s credited to you as withdrawable cash. Yep, you can request a withdrawal and pocket the bonus if you want to. If you’re anything like me, you won’t bother with that. After all, if you were planning to buy a few event contracts, this bonus comes in handy.

An honest take on what I thought about the website’s usability

When I logged into my account for the first time, what caught my attention was how the prediction markets feel like a natural extension of the wider IBKR platform. It doesn’t feel like a separate product like with most sites. The event contracts have been integrated into the existing website with ease, so that you don’t have to create additional accounts if you want to access anything else.

Now, on to the actual navigation. I was met with a menu of prediction markets, where you will naturally use the most. This gave me a list of the categories, while also providing a dedicated Popular tab. Here, I found a rundown of the most popular markets of the moment, including a rolling banner of the top 5 contracts. Without clicking on the link to expand the view, I could see the contract options, price, probability, and trading volume.

Underneath the banner of the top 5 markets, there’s a grid layout of the other popular markets, too. For instance, I found options like Number of Fed Rate Cuts, US Consumer Price Index Yearly, and US Unemployment Rate. This is great for anyone who’s unsure what they want to trade on. Personally, I quite like browsing what others are looking at, because I relate it to window shopping. I don’t always know what I want, so I like a good look around.

For traders who like to come prepared and know exactly what they want, there’s a search bar sitting at the top of the page. Simply search for the category or contract option, and it’ll load the relevant options.

What stood out to me about IBKR is the amount of consideration that went into offering a tailored experience. To give you an idea of what I mean, you can change the website between Dark and Light mode. So, if you’re like me and prefer to scroll on dark pages and find it easier on the eyes, IBKR has your back.

There’s an iOS and Android IBKR app available to download

If you ever want to buy event contracts or manage your account on the go, you can install the iOS or Android app. The apps are available in the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, so everyone has been thought of. The app is a streamlined version of the website, which feels largely the same. In fact, it practically mirrors the browser site.

The website and app share most of the same features, with minimal changes. The only big change to mention is that the app’s content has been condensed. Naturally, the menus are smaller and swipeable, with the homepage being scrollable. I certainly prefer using the app while I’m out and about, so it’ll be my go-to instead of using the mobile site.

Speaking of the mobile site, it works perfectly well. I didn’t have any issues with it at all. Given the fact that it’s built using HTML5 technology, the website adapts to all screen sizes with no fuss. You can expect a few minor adjustments, just like the app, but it’s nothing major.

Payments are largely centered around bank transfers

If you’re going to buy event contracts for your favorite prediction markets here, then you’re going to need to fund your account. Likewise, if you receive any settlements, then it’s handy to know how withdrawals work. That’s exactly what we’re going to look into now.

Deposit methods

I found a long list of deposit methods; however, they were all pretty much different versions of bank transfers. For example, you can deposit using Wire Transfer, ACH Transfer, eDDA, and FPS. All of these work by processing the funds directly from your bank account and moving them into your IBKR balance. They all have a slightly different process, but the overall system is the same.

While most of these payment methods are fee-free, you may incur some fees when using Wire Transfers. It’s worth noting that because deposits can only be done via bank transfers, it’s not instant. It can take up to 24 hours before your funds reach your account, depending on the method you pick. In all honesty, this is one of the big pitfalls for me. I’d like to see a few extra methods added in the future, such as debit cards, which can support near-instant payments.

Withdrawal methods

Once again, the payout methods here are mostly bank transfers. You can choose between methods like Wire Transfer, ACH Transfer, Direct Debit, and Check. Most of these methods generally incur a fee; however, that’s calculated at checkout. The only method that doesn’t generally add a fee is Direct Debit, so it’s worth considering this if you want to save a few bucks.

That said, you will get one free withdrawal each month. Your first withdrawal of the month is fee-free, so it might be worth timing your payouts to once a month if you want to avoid all fees.

Generally speaking, there aren’t many withdrawal limits, but there is a maximum requirement depending on your 2FA. So, if you haven’t set up two-factor authentication, you are limited to $50,000 per day. In my opinion, this is reasonable. Ultimately, how many traders want to withdraw more than $50,000 daily? Furthermore, you can increase this to $200,000 per day if you add SMS 2FA. If you add 2FA through a mobile authenticator app, then your limit increases again to $1,000,000 per day.

Strong customer support options at IBKR

IBKR has recently redesigned its customer support hub, creating what is now known as the Support Center. It has been updated to be more streamlined, while offering AI-assisted support. I’m not a big fan of AI support generally, but I think this has been executed well. If you experience any issues with it, there’s even a link to provide feedback and request to contact the support team directly.

The main channel is the Quick Support, which is essentially the FAQ section. You can use the search bar to find relevant articles, which is assisted by AI. You will be shown relevant FAQs based on the keywords you enter. I’ll be honest, it took me a few attempts to get it right. I started typing partial questions or short sentences, but it couldn’t understand them. I then changed it to simple keywords, which worked perfectly.

I couldn’t find a direct email to the support team, but I did find a web form that allows you to submit a ticket. This works in the same way as emails, so I was pretty happy. However, it was noted that it could take up to 48 hours to get a response, which isn’t good enough in my opinion. With it being one of the main ways to speak with a real human, it felt too lengthy. If this reduces to around 24 hours, then it’ll be much better.

On a brighter note, there is a live chat service. It’s not available 24/7, but the opening times are generally okay. When I tested the live chat, I wasn’t initially connected with a real human. Instead, I was met with a few automated answers before I could request to speak with a live agent. Once I got through, the responses came back quickly and gave me instant resolutions.

Another feature I liked to see is that you can tailor the language to suit your needs. There are 15 languages available, including English, Spanish, French, Portuguese, and Italian. While English is the default, it’s easily changed by tapping the speech bubble icon in the top right-hand corner of the page.

I scoured the website to make sure the brand is legitimate

Something I do with every review is make sure the operator is trustworthy. After all, you aren’t going to want to spend your money on a site that’s not following the appropriate guidelines or regulations. I wish I could say that every prediction market site in existence was genuine, but there are a few strange sites out there, so you have to be vigilant. Instead of taking anyone’s word for it, I carried out a few tests of my own.

I’m pleased to report back that IBKR has passed my tests with flying colors. Firstly, Interactive Brokers Prediction Markets is CFTC-regulated. This means that the Commodity Futures Trading Commission provides guidelines that IBKR follows. The event contracts are supplied by trusted exchanges, including Kalshi. All of those sites are also regulated by the CFTC, which provides additional protection and reassurance.

What grabbed my attention at the start of my review is the number of verification checks the site does. Before I could open an account, I was asked to provide quite a few details, including my full name, date of birth, address, and citizenship. I also had to submit my government-issued ID, like a passport or driver’s license, along with a separate document that proved my address, i.e., a utility bill. To put it plainly, these checks are full-on broker-level. Yes, it takes a few minutes to complete, but I appreciate the security.

Conclusion: IBKR is frequently updating its prediction markets

Interactive Brokers Prediction Markets has totally impressed me. I initially thought that I’d find the offerings boring, but I gave myself a little shake and reminded myself that I shouldn’t judge a website right off the bat. Within a few minutes, I was proven wrong, and I haven’t been happier about it. The prediction markets are divided into two categories, where you can then filter your search a little further.

The new conditional contracts are a great addition. I haven’t come across anything like that before on a prediction market site, so it was a breath of fresh air. These are good to browse through if you ever want to trade on something a little different. I like it when regular features get a twist, and that certainly fits the bill.

While IBKR is doing a lot of things right, there is still room for improvement. That said, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a platform that isn’t in need of something. What I’d like to eventually see here are a few more payment methods and additional support options. If these change, IBKR will be even better.

If you have enjoyed learning about Interactive Brokers Prediction Markets, all that’s left for you to do is click through the on-page banners. You can then see it all for yourself.
