There is a US-specific Polymarket app available where you can trade event contracts on multiple categories. You can download the appropriate app for your device directly from the main Polymarket website, or from Google Play, or the App Store.
You’ll mainly find event contracts for nine different sports, with prediction markets for outcomes, and game or player-specific stats. Each contract is represented by a question where there are just two outcomes. Polymarket provides a wealth of information for every event, complete with real-time updates to help you make informed predictions, reliable resolution sources, and verifiable outcomes.
We are often asked where Polymarket is legal, which is entirely irrelevant to this review of the brand’s app. The fact is that the Polymarket app is only available to download for traders in the US.
There are versions available for Android or iOS devices, which you can obtain directly from the main Polymarket website, or from the relevant app stores. Below are the details for each:
The Android version is available to download from Google Play. You will need a device with Android 12, or higher, to install it. The app has been downloaded more than 1 million times, and has generated 13.8k user reviews with an overall 3.7 stars.
You will need 676.1 MB of free space and a device with iOS 18 or above to install the iOS app. This version has also been downloaded by more than a million users, but has a higher 4.6 rating from 62k users.
If you own a mobile device with a different operating system, or one that doesn’t meet the minimum device requirements, unfortunately you won’t be able to trade Polymarket’s event contracts, as there’s currently no mobile alternative.
You will mainly find prediction markets for sports events on the Polymarket app. Although the brand also offers other categories, we found them quite limited compared to the sports prediction market. Here are the other categories you can find in the app:
In terms of the sports currently on offer, you’ll find the following:
For all of the above there will typically be contracts for the overall outcome of any given event, plus prediction markets for stats-based props, and futures for major tournaments.
Irrespective of whether you are predicting the overall outcome of an event, or trading stats-based prediction markets, all event contracts are binary, which means there are only two possible outcomes. You may see these displayed as Yes/No, Over/Under, or Above/Below, but the principle is always exactly the same.
We’ll show you a live example shortly, but it’s worth understanding the basics first. Each contract is priced between $0.01 and $0.99. The prices shown for any given event are typically displayed as percentages, which in turn reflect the implied probabilities for each side of the contract.
As such, a contract where the probabilities are 60% Yes, and 40% No, indicates that 60% of all users who have purchased a contract expect the outcome to happen. Probabilities are often referred to as ‘market sentiment’.
When an event is resolved, all successful contracts pay out $1.00, less Polymarket fees, while unsuccessful predictions receive zero. Fees are always subject to change without notice, but at the time of writing, the following are applicable:
As we compiled this short Polymarket review, we selected a NFL match at random to show you what a typical event contract will look like. The information in the table below relates to a recent San Francisco 49ers vs Washington Commanders game:
| Contract information | What you see | Explanation |
|---|---|---|
| Event question | “Will the 49ers win tonight?” | Yes or No outcomes |
| Yes | 78% ($0.78 per contract) | Implied probability/contract price for 49ers to win |
| No | 22% ($0.22 per contract) | Implied probability/contract price for Commanders to win |
| Trading volume | $1.4 million | Total amount traded on the outcome of this event |
| Resolution source | NFL.com | The data source used to settle contracts |
The probabilities displayed are based on the opinion of all users who have purchased a contract. Also, that information is only relevant at a specific moment in time. In reality, the probabilities, and therefore the value of any contracts you have purchased, will change multiple times. As such, their value can go up or down.
Aside from the event contract relating to the overall outcome of the match we’ve shown you, there were also Polymarket sports markets available for other aspects of this matchup too, which included First Half Score, Second Half Score, and Total Goals.
We are often asked this question, as Polymarket isn’t a brand that blows its own trumpet. But just because the brand doesn’t announce them loudly, that doesn’t mean there are no promotions on offer.
The first bonus you’ll encounter is the Polymarket sign up bonus for new traders. In order to claim it you’ll need to open a new account, and complete the brand’s verification process to confirm your identity and source of income.
When you have traded $10 worth of event contracts, Polymarket will add $25 of trading credit to your account. Below are a few things you need to know about using your bonus:
One other thing that’s worth knowing, is that any cash balance in your Polymarket account will be used before the bonus credits. As such, it’s worth confining your first deposit to the minimum $10 necessary to fulfill the initial trading requirement.
Although you can start sharing your Polymarket referral code as soon as your account is open, you won’t start receiving rewards until you’ve completed $10,000 worth of trades. Once done, you’ll receive a reward for every successful referral, and there is no cap on the number of introductions you make.
The key is in the word ‘successful’ as there are a couple of rules attached:
For each direct referral you will get 30% commission, based on their net trading fees, plus 10% when your own referrals introduce others.
The Polymarket app gives US traders the opportunity to enjoy an excellent selection of sport-related prediction markets and more. You’ll find event contracts for eight major sports, and multiple leagues. You can make predictions for the overall outcome of an event, or trade contracts based on a variety of match statistics. On top of sports, you can also make predictions on topics related to politics, cryptocurrency, and weather.
If you use the link on our page banners to go to Polymarket, you’ll be able to download the appropriate app for your mobile device from there. Once you’ve opened an account, you’ll be able to claim a $25 bonus when you’ve completed just $10 worth of trades, which is a great deal.
The Polymarket app is only available to US traders. There are versions available for suitable iOS and Android devices which can be downloaded from the main Polymarket website, or the App Store and Google Play respectively.
At present, Polymarket offers event contracts related to multiple categories including sports, politics, cryptocurrency, and weather.
