Ranks: what we know so far
With the anticipated drop of Riot’s new flagship first-person shooter, VALORANT, one of the many things we can expect is a detailed ranking system that will lay the path for the best players to be noticed.
The ranking system is set up with 8 ranks. Each player will play a set amount of placement matches that will determine their current skill level. The players will then progress from there to prove their worth against higher level opponents. The ranks follow, from lowest to highest as:
- Mercenary
- Soldier
- Veteran
- Hero
- Legend
- Mythic
- Immortal
- Valorant
The rank “Valorant” is at the top of the list representing the best of the best players. These will most likely be the players looked at to fill the professional scene. It is comparable to ranked systems like Rainbow Six Siege and Apex Legends due to the fact that only a certain set amount of players will be able to achieve the rank of VALORANT.
It is unknown how the MMR system will work though, and a lot of players are hoping for a rigorously built system. Ranked systems have been the bane of competitive communities since they have been implemented into games. This will probably be the main topic of contention when the game comes out, and the servers are flooded with players from a plethora of fps games.
The developers at Riot have made sure that they have all bases covered walking into the drop of open beta. VALORANT seems to be on everyone’s minds as the world enters the first full week of May. As more details are revealed about the game, we will see the molding of what most hope to be the game of the year.
