While VALORANT Champions Tour 2021 is closing out soon with VCT 2021 - VALORANT Champions 2021 ending in 2 days, Riot Games have officially announced the format for the new season in 2022. While we have already got some glimpse of when the Brazilian region will kick off, today we get to know the frequency of Challengers, Masters and ultimately Champions.

Following a similar over-all structure of 2021, VALORANT Champions Tour in 2022 will have two Challengers stages with two international Masters right after them similar to what Masters Reykjavik and Masters Berlin where in 2021. After that, there will be a Last Chance Qualifier again just before VALORANT Champions Tour. The difference between 2022 and 2021 is that the Champions event will be held in September rather than December. A quick recap timeline can be found below:

    • Challengers 1 (February-March)
    • Masters 1 (April)
    • Challengers 2 (May-June)
    • Masters 2 (July)
    • Last Chance Qualifier (August)
    • Champions (September)

So the question that everyone asked after reading the above was, "What will happen after September?". After that, Riot Games have confirmed that between October and December there will be two things:

    1. Events organised by third party Tournament Organisers similar to what the Ignition Series in 2020 was, named as the New Tournament Circuit
    2. An international LAN for Game Changers (barring any COVID-19 restrictions)

Some further details in relation to changes coming to Challengers were also included in the announcement quoting Whalen Rozelle, Head of Global Esports Operations:

"Each Challengers split will kick off with an Open Qualifier that will lead into multiple weeks of "league-style" play between the best teams in the region. It all culminates with a big tournament to crown the winner."
