EDward Gaming parts ways with Head Coach Muggle
After becoming the first team eliminated from VALORANT Champions Tour 2025 - Valorant Champions, EDward Gaming has made its first offseason move: parting ways with Head Coach Tang "Muggle" Shijun. Muggle, who has been with the organization for three years, leaves behind a legacy that includes EDG’s historic VCT 2024 - Champions 2024 win—the first international title ever secured by a Chinese team in VALORANT.
A Long Tenure with EDG
Muggle joined EDG in 2022 as a coach and stand-in player. He steadily took on more responsibility and was promoted to Head Coach in June 2024. Under his leadership, EDG claimed their place in the history books with their incredible Champions 2024 victory.
However, 2025 has been a challenging year for the team. They missed out on VALORANT Champions Tour 2025 - Masters Toronto 2025, and Champions Paris was seen as their shot at redemption. Unfortunately, EDG couldn’t regain their former glory and were knocked out as the first team to exit the event.
In the post-match press conference, Muggle cited the ever-shifting meta as a major obstacle:
“We have many things to conclude, because VALORANT is changing constantly. Everyone [on the team] had things to do, things to change. We just need to take it step by step and follow the meta to be better in the future.”
Possible rebuild in the offseason
With the Head Coach position now vacant, EDG may be eyeing a rebuild ahead of the 2026 season. After a tough year, a roster or staff shakeup could be the reset they need to bounce back.
As for Muggle, despite EDG’s recent struggles, his coaching pedigree—especially his role in the 2024 title run—makes him an attractive option for other Chinese teams heading into 2026. A strong Head Coach remains one of the cornerstones of any top-tier VALORANT roster. Who EDG chooses to replace Muggle remains to be seen.
