EG Potter says adaptability in VALORANT's current utility-heavy state makes best players, speaks on rumored Tejo nerfs, Harbor buffs
Christine "Potter" Chi is one of the most knowledgeable coaches in VALORANT, having played professional Counter Strike for over a decade and having been a professional coach for a handful of years, including leading a Champions-winning roster with Evil Geniuses. She has insight on the scene that is hard to match and a grounded viewpoint of the game that comes from years of experience.
Keep up or get left behind
When asked about the current state of VALORANT, the 38-year-old kept things real as well. She was aware of the conversations being had around utility, and the complaints that various pros and players around the world have made, but she believes that the best players and coaches are built through adaptability.
“I think it's becoming a lot more complex, but to me VALORANT is still the same,” Potter explained. “Utility has always been a huge part of this game and adapting to it and improvising within the rounds has been a huge part of what makes the best players the best players.”
She did admit that Tejo was “game-breaking” this year, but it wasn’t a new experience. The game will always be heavily focused on how well you use utility, and how well you improvise around it. However, pros like Jordan "Zellsis" Montemurro and Francis "OXY" Hoang have complained about how strong Tejo is for the post-plant meta, since his Guided Salvo rockets only take 40 seconds to recharge after they’ve been used.
Incoming Tejo nerfs?
Potter did reveal that she had heard “something on the grapevine” about possible Tejo nerfs incoming and Harbor buffs incoming—although not in Patch 10.08, as seen by the recent patch notes. Potter eventually concluded by saying that if Harbor gets buffed, people will have issues with walls constantly blocking sight lines and utility spam.
“I think VALORANT is definitely a game that we'll just always have something to complain about.”
