Esports World Cup 2026 confirmed to be hosted in Paris, France
The Esports Foundation (EF) has officially announced that the 2026 edition of the Esports World Cup will be held in Paris, France, from July 6 through August 23. The announcement puts to rest weeks of rumors that were circulating the internet. Paris also becomes the first international host city outside of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in the event's history.
French President Emmanuel Macron personally welcomed Esports Foundation CEO Ralf Reichert to Paris to formally mark the occasion, signaling strong institutional backing from France for what is set to be a monumental summer of competitive gaming.
A Historic First Outside Saudi Arabia
Since its inception, the Esports World Cup has called Riyadh home. Reichert acknowledged that legacy directly: "Riyadh is the home of EWC and one of the world's leading hubs for esports, powered by an incredible community of fans and long-term ambition for the future of the sport."
However, following an extended evaluation process and in light of the current regional situation, the Esports Foundation decided to accelerate its long-held ambition of rotating the event internationally. The move to Paris offers clarity and stability for players, clubs, publishers, partners, and fans while preserving the tournament's scale, structure, and competitive integrity.
Record-Breaking Scale in the City of Sport
The 2026 edition is set to be the biggest yet. More than 2,000 players and 200 clubs from over 100 countries will converge on Paris, competing across 24 games and 25 tournaments for a record-breaking prize pool exceeding $75 million.
Paris is no stranger to hosting massive international events. It boasts a series of high-profile esports tournaments like VALORANT Champions Tour 2025 - Valorant Champions and the Six Invitational 2026 in recent years. Now fresh off its successful run as host of the 2024 Summer Olympics, the French capital brings world-class infrastructure, a passionate sports culture, and a proven ability to handle events of this magnitude.
A New Chapter for Global Esports
Reichert stated that this move is more a statement of intent than a logistical decision. "Paris now becomes the first international chapter in EWC history," he said, calling the city a natural fit given its standing as a global capital of sport, culture, and entertainment. The Esports Foundation has long envisioned a rotating global footprint, and Paris is the first step in that journey. With a record $75 million prize pool and millions of fans watching, 2026 promises to be EWC's most ambitious edition yet.
