Gen.G promote Ash to the main roster for the start of the VCT Pacific Stage 1
Gen.G Esports have announced they are promoting Ha "Ash" Hyun-cheol from their academy squad up to the main roster for the start of their journey at the VALORANT Champions Tour 2025 - Pacific Stage 1.
The news comes just days after the team decided to part ways with Chae "yoman" Young-mun only four months into his stay with Gen.G. Now, Ash will need to take an active part in righting the Gen.G ship at Stage 1 after a disappointing finish at the VALORANT Champions Tour 2025 - Pacific Kickoff.
VCL Star, VCT Newcomer
Though Ash is no stranger to competitive VALORANT, he has never played in the VCT before. After running rampant through the lower tiers of the South Korean scene with FearX in 2024, Ash was brought in to play for Gen.G Global Academy at the start of the 2025 season.
Over the course of his 14 maps at the VCL 2025 - Korea: Stage 1 with the Gen.G Academy squad, Ash has continuously put up strong performances, averaging 1.16 rating, 234.2 ACS, and 154.4 ADR.
Heading into the VCT 2025 Pacific Stage 1, Ash will be given the difficult task of redirecting Gen.G back towards winning ways. Looking ahead, it is clear that for a team of Gen.G's caliber, anything short of qualifying for the next step of international competition at the VALORANT Champions Tour 2025 - Masters Toronto 2025 would be a massive disappointment.
An adaptable player with a sharp aim, it remains to be seen exactly what role Ash will be expected to fulfill for the team. With the Pacific Stage 1 starting as soon as this Saturday, March 22, it will be interesting to see whether Gen.G look to make any further tweaks to the roster before locking in the squad that will take the stage for the start of the tournament.
