Gen.G retains Karon for 2026 VCT Pacific season
Gen.G Esports has reversed course on one of its recent roster decisions, announcing the re-signing of Kim "Karon" Won-tae for the 2026 VCT Pacific season, just three days after initially confirming that his contract had run out. The move is not unprecedented for Gen.G, as the team did something similar at the end of the 2024 season as well.
The initial announcement, which confirmed the release of Karon, Byeon "Munchkin" Sang-beom, Kim "t3xture" Na-ra, and Kim "Lakia" Jong-min, sent shockwaves through the VALORANT esports community. However, Gen.G has now clarified that Karon will remain a key part of their 2026 ambitions. This development comes alongside the confirmation that coaches Kang "solo" Keun-chul and Kim "HSK" Hae-seong have also been retained, providing much-needed stability in leadership.
More Roster News
In addition to all of this, rumors are circulating that t3xture may also be in talks to rejoin the squad, potentially restoring more of the championship-winning synergy from their VCT 2024 - Masters Shanghai run. While no official statement has been made, insider speculation suggests negotiations are ongoing.
In contrast, in-game leader Munchkin has officially confirmed he will not be renewing his contract. His departure marks the end of an era, as he was instrumental in shaping Gen.G’s tactical identity. With Munchkin exiting, the team now faces the challenge of finding a new IGL.
Roster Now Down to Three
Currently, Gen.G’s active roster consists of Jung "Foxy9" Jae-sung, Ha "Ash" Hyun-cheol, and Karon, leaving two open slots. The organization is expected to evaluate both domestic and international talent in the coming weeks as they aim to rebuild around their remaining pillars.
The 2024 Masters Shanghai-winning roster is now reduced to just one member (if t3xture doesn’t renew his contract), highlighting a significant shift in the team’s composition. As Gen.G enters a transitional phase, the focus will be on maintaining their elite status while integrating new pieces capable of contending at the highest level.
