Home-crowd heartbreak: TYLOO and XLG eliminated from VALORANT Champions 2026
October 1 was a tough day for the Chinese teams at VALORANT Champions Tour 2026 - Champions Shanghai, as TYLOO and Xi Lai Gaming became the first teams eliminated from the tournament. After going 0-8 across the first round of matches, two Chinese teams are now out of the event, leaving just two still in contention for a spot in the Playoffs.
A challenging run for China
Despite few people expecting the Chinese teams to turn things around after the first round of matches, TYLOO managed to push Team Liquid to a third map. However, the decider was far from competitive, as TYLOO struggled to find an answer and ended the first half 0-12.
The team came close to setting an unwanted record before winning the second-half pistol, but even that was not enough to spark a comeback.
For Xi Lai Gaming, despite the 0-2 defeat, both maps were closely contested. On several occasions, the Chinese team had a comfortable lead, only for Nongshim RedForce to mount another comeback. Known for their resilience, the Pacific team repeatedly found ways to string rounds together whenever XLG looked in control.
There is a reason why they won VALORANT Champions Tour 2026 - Masters Santiago 2026 in the first place and why they have earned their place on the international stage.
Although Nongshim RedForce only reached Tier 1 in 2026, the team has already shown that it has the experience to remain composed in difficult situations. Xi Lai Gaming fought until the very end, but it was not enough to keep their Champions run alive.
China’s remaining hope in the tournament
The future of the Chinese teams in the tournament looks uncertain. On October 2, two more Chinese organizations will fight to keep their Playoffs hopes alive in elimination matches. Once again facing Pacific opposition, both JD Gaming and EDward Gaming have difficult series ahead of them.
EDward Gaming will face Global Esports, while JD Gaming will go up against T1 in their respective series. The odds may be against the Chinese teams, but hope is still alive. The home crowd has done its best to keep its teams fighting, but unfortunately, the home-crowd advantage has not been enough to keep them alive in the tournament so far.
If both Chinese organizations lose their respective series, they will be eliminated from the tournament. That would also mean Pacific teams have eliminated three of the four Chinese representatives at Champions Shanghai 2026.
There is still plenty of VALORANT to be played on the international stage, with the final Playoffs spots set to be decided on October 4, when the Group Stage comes to an end. Only the top eight teams will advance to the next stage, where they will fight for the VALORANT Champions 2026 trophy and the chance to close out the competitive season on top.
