OBSIDIAN ESPORTS is a new organization that was established in 2019. Coming from Denmark, the organization has started with a team competing in CS:GO. This year, the management has decided to expand to the new grounds by signing a team to compete in the newest Riot Games FPS, VALORANT.

“The goal for us as owners is simply to see these boys shine where they shine the brightest. Helping them in any way we can, both on a social and psychological level, but also making sure that their financial worries are put to rest by paying for their fees, etc, so they can focus on the game, as they should. Our expectations for VALORANT are pretty high. We have discussed it internally several times and we are sure that, if Riot treats this game as they have with their powerhouse title, League of Legends, this game will probably take over the scene of esports in the very near future,” tells us the owners of OBSIDIAN ESPORTS, Martin “CoDeX” Aggerholm, and Jimmy “Thorbek” Sørensen.

The team consists of the players that were active on the local Danish scene in games like Counter-Strike 1.6 and CS:GO and played in organizations like Lyngby Vikings and SUBLIFE. Alexander “alexpalex” Hansen is the captain of the team, followed by Daniel “dst” Thomsen, Oliver “jessenOJ” Jessen, and Casper “desmo” Rasmussen. The last player also had some experience on the Apex Legends scene. The fifth member of the squad is Martin “martiNwk” Johannsen who recently replaced a previously announced Rasmus “mindbreaker” Bodenhoff.

“We signed with these boys because we were already familiar with them from the CS scene. Alexander used to play for us sometime back, and back then he already showed great leadership potential and a thorough game sense. So we knew beforehand that we were dealing with a potential star. Along with that, the drive in these boys are also through the roof with 8-12 hour-long practice days. They have rock-solid aim, which is probably taken with them from the CS scene, which is only beneficial. It’s very obvious to us, that they have faith in themselves, and the raw will to accomplish what they set out for,” continues Jimmy “Thorbek” Sørensen.

“Our goal as an organization is to be the very best. We strive to empower our players and give them the foundation they need to be their best. We pour our hearts, souls, and hard-earned money into this organization, and every single member is treated like family. With this mentality, we are sure we will hit the biggest scene in the world. Maybe not right now, but it is inevitable,” adds Martin “CoDeX” Aggerholm.

OBSIDIAN ESPORTS hasn’t competed in many VALORANT tournaments just yet, but the Danish squad has been invited to the Absolute Legends series, which will start soon on May 12th, 2020 and was playing in the FNATIC Proving Grounds: VALORANT Open.

“I am sure that VALORANT will be the next big esport, and I do not think we have to wait for too long for an official esports structure. I hope and I really think that it will be a big contender for CS:GO. I want to set high goals for myself and my team, and I won’t stop until we reach them. Even though it is difficult to say anything about the current level of teams at the moment, we do not expect to be the best team there is right away. We know we have to work hard, grind, and to never give up,” says the team captain, Alexander “alexpalex” Hansen.

OBSIDIAN ESPORTS roster is formed by:

Denmark Daniel “dst” Thomsen Denmark Casper “desmo” Rasmussen Denmark Oliver “jessenOJ” Jessen Denmark Martin “martiNwk” Johannsen Denmark Alexander “alexpalex” Hansen
