Rex Regum Qeon parts ways with head coach Ewok
Rex Regum Qeon announced on their X account that they have parted ways with their head coach Martin "Ewok" Ewok after three impactful years with the team. Ewok, the South African coach, has decided to take a temporary break from full-time coaching but affirmed his continued involvement with the VALORANT team.
On his own X account, Ewok expressed gratitude for his time with RRQ,
"After 3 incredible years with RRQ, I’ve made the difficult decision that I’ll be taking a temporary break from full time coaching. Its been some of the most amazing years of my life and I would like to thank everyone involved from the bottom of my heart. I’ll still be in and around VALORANT in different ways. This won’t be the end of my coaching career, but rather a break to focus on some other areas of my life."
Further elaborating on RRQ's YouTube channel, Ewok reflected on the achievements of 2025 and the challenges faced. Despite facing numerous obstacles, they achieved historic milestones for Indonesian VALORANT. Although the final results were not ideal, he expressed immense pride in the team’s effort and accomplishments.
He also shared the toll this role took on his personal life, emphasizing his all-in dedication to VALORANT and RRQ but acknowledging the need to step back to regain balance. Ewok assured his ongoing support in helping find and integrate a new head coach for RRQ moving forward.
Ewok's Tenure and Team Journey
Ewok became RRQ’s head coach in September 2022 when the organization was announced as a "VCT Partner Team" for the 2023 season. Over this period, the RRQ roster experienced multiple roster changes, ups and downs under his leadership. Although early results in 2023 and 2024 were inconsistent, the team showed promising flashes of excellence.
The breakthrough moment came at VCT 2024 - Pacific Stage 2, where RRQ surprised everyone by defeating Gen.G Esports, who were fresh off a VCT 2024 - Masters Shanghai win. This victory set the tone for the 2025 season.
Despite an underwhelming start at Pacific Kickoff 2025, RRQ went on an absolute tear to claim the VALORANT Champions Tour 2025 - Pacific Stage 1 trophy. Their dominant form carried into VALORANT Champions Tour 2025 - Pacific Stage 2, securing a second-place finish.
However, their international performances in 2025 were disappointing, to say the least. They missed out on qualification for VALORANT Champions Tour 2025 - Masters Bangkok 2025, exited VALORANT Champions Tour 2025 - Masters Toronto 2025 winless, and suffered an early group stage elimination at VALORANT Champions Tour 2025 - Valorant Champions.
Future Leadership Prospects
RRQ has yet to announce a replacement for Ewok as head coach. However, the team retains leadership continuity with assistant coach Evan "Warbirds" Olzem, who is expected to serve as interim head coach until a permanent successor is appointed. Ewok will remain involved in supporting the transition and ensuring team stability.
RRQ faces a pivotal transition as they aim to build on successes and fix international weaknesses for a strong 2026. Ewok’s departure ends an impactful tenure marked by growth and regional achievements. Fans and analysts are waiting for the arrival of new leadership to see if the team can reach even greater heights.
