Riot Games announce competitive game mode

The VALORANT Developers have finally released more information regarding the highly anticipated competitive matchmaking which will be arriving soon. The VALORANT rated (ranked) game mode is expected to have the same in-game rules and format as the current Unrated mode in the closed beta, with the only difference being that you are now playing in a much more competitive atmosphere as winning or losing will be impacting your rank.

A few days ago in a previous article, we had mentioned that the initial eight ranks were: Mercenary, Soldier, Veteran, Hero, Legend, Mythic, Immortal, VALORANT. However Riot decided to adjust these rank names, so they had them standardized to be similar to other esport titles. The new and updated rank names are as follows: Iron, Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Immortal, VALORANT.

Riot Games have stated that competitive matchmaking will be released publicly on patch 0.49. VALORANT’s closed beta is currently on patch 0.47 which included quite a couple of changes. You can find our article here. Joe “Ziggs” Ziegler has stated that there will not be a patch 0.48, hence meaning that the next update will include competitive matchmaking.

Here are some important details you should know before you head into competitive mode:

• To unlock competitive mode, you will need to complete a minimum of twenty Unrated matches.

• There are a total of 8 ranks, which consist of three tiers each (Iron 1, Iron 2, Iron 3, and so on), apart from the highest rank, VALORANT.

• It is possible to queue Competitive matchmaking with a Five-man lobby, with the only exception being that the players you are queuing with are within two ranks of you.

• Unlike other games the rank will not decay after a period of time, however, your VALORANT rank will not be displayed if there are no competitive matches played within 14 days.

• One other final important thing to note is that the rank you will have in the closed beta, will not carry over to when VALORANT is released. So do not worry if you do not manage to grab your desired rank in the closed beta, as you will have plenty of time to get it when the game launches.
