RRQ crazyguy talks pressure, progress, and Pacific pride: “I’m Ready to Fight Anyone”
The VALORANT Champions Tour 2025 - Pacific Stage 2 Grand Finals may not have ended in victory for Rex Regum Qeon, but the team’s stellar runs in both VALORANT Champions Tour 2025 - Pacific Stage 1 and Stage 2 left a lasting impression.
Despite falling short in the finals, RRQ’s in-game leader, Ngô "Crazyguy" Công Anh, spoke candidly in a post-match interview about his team’s growth, challenges, and outlook heading into VALORANT Champions Tour 2025 - Valorant Champions.
“Before this tournament, we didn’t even expect we had a full roster. The moment we landed here and could play, it was already a good thing… We just tried to enjoy the game and the crowd – the support was insane.”
Visa Troubles and Lost Practice
One of the biggest hurdles RRQ faced came long before stepping onto the server. Visa complications for Paris meant last-minute travel to Tokyo for a few (including crazyguy himself), which disrupted preparation and practice schedules.
“I think because we needed to travel here, travel there for the visa, we didn’t have much time to scrim. Even the day I flew, we tried to get three, four scrims, but had to cancel two because I needed to go to the airport early.”
The Stage 1 winner admitted that while the team’s mentality remained strong, the lack of practice was an undeniable disadvantage.
Lessons From Masters Toronto
RRQ is now preparing for their second-ever international tournament, but their first taste of global competition at VALORANT Champions Tour 2025 - Masters Toronto 2025 earlier this year was far from ideal. The team struggled to make a lasting impression, and the experience sparked questions about how they could adapt on the world stage.
Reflecting on Toronto, Crazyguy emphasized the striking differences between regions, especially when scrimming: “Pacific teams like to play fast. Other regions like NA or EMEA play more slow, more tactical,” he explained. For him as an IGL, the contrast was clear: what works in the Pacific may not translate against international opposition.
That realization, he believes, is a necessary step for RRQ’s growth. “We need to play more with other regions to get used to their playstyle,” he added. Such recognition reflects the team’s commitment to growth as they gear up for Champions.
Leadership and Pressure
Taking on the role of IGL in a new roster is never easy, but Crazyguy believes his teammates have made the transition smoother.
“For me, it’s easy to IGL in this team because people like to listen,” he said. But he didn’t sugarcoat the downside either: “Sometimes when the game becomes hard, we have too many ideas. Everyone wants to win, and sometimes people just overthink.”
Despite setbacks, he praised RRQ’s ability to remain calm under pressure, though one recurring weakness stood out: pistol rounds. Losing seven of eight pistols in a key match is, in Crazyguy’s words, simply unsustainable. “You cannot expect to win the game like that,” he said bluntly. It’s a fundamental weakness, and one the team must address if they hope to make a deep run internationally.
Regional Loyalty, Global Mindset
When asked about opponents he’d like to face in Champions, Crazyguy emphasized regional solidarity. “If we can choose, we don’t want to play against Pacific teams. We don’t want to kick each other out. Outside, we are like brothers. The more Pacific teams go deeper, the more it shows our region is strong.”
To close out the interview, he added with confidence:
“I don’t really have an opponent I want to play. I’m ready to fight anyone.”
The Road Ahead
RRQ’s Stage 2 run may have ended with a silver medal, but their determination is nothing but gold. From navigating logistical nightmares to battling world-class opponents, the team has proven its ability to persevere and adapt. Champions now looms on the horizon, and with Crazyguy at the helm, RRQ will enter their second ever international tournament with a chip on their shoulder and something to prove.
