Sentinels win SEN City Classic 2025 and key takeaways from the event
One of the most hyped off-season VALORANT events has wrapped up, and standing tall at the end are none other than Sentinels. The North American giants lifted their own VCT OFF Season - SEN City Classic 2025 trophy after edging out Envy in a nail-biting 2-1 grand final.
A New Era for Sentinels
This tournament marked the debut of the new Sentinels roster featuring Gabriel "cortezia" Cortez, Yassine "Reduxx" Aboulalazm, and Mirel "Kyu" Braco Hrustemovic. The trio brought a fresh dynamic to the team’s playstyle, highlighted by moments of pure brilliance. While Marshall "N4RRATE" Massey’s adaptation to the duelist role seemed like a work in progress, cortezia’s impact on the sentinel role was definitely more than noticeable.
In the finals alone, he tallied an astonishing 52 kills, just edging out Reduxx, who came in a close second with 51. Their combined consistency and firepower propelled Sentinels back into the conversation as one of the most dangerous teams in the region.
ENVY Prove They Belong
For ENVY, the event served as an early test before their first ever VCT Americas campaign following their Ascension victory. Despite Rahul "curry" Nemani standing in for Inspire, ENVY made a powerful impression.
Their convincing win over Cloud9 in the group stage and multiple close games against Sentinels were a statement that they can compete at the top level. Even in defeat in the finals, their resilience and coordination proved this roster has the potential to turn heads in 2026.
Cloud9’s Worrying Start
Cloud9’s off-season debut went far from plan. With newcomers Jordan "Zellsis" Montemurro and Erik "penny" Penny, expectations were high, but the team fell flat, finishing 0-3 in groups after losses to Sentinels, ENVY, and even Cubert Academy. While the result was a red flag for fans, penny’s individual form offered a glimpse of hope. His consistency and mechanical sharpness may be the spark Cloud9 desperately need heading into next year.
Looking Ahead
Although the SEN City Classic 2025 was meant to be light-hearted, the performances provided a glimpse at some competitive developments heading into the 2026 season. Sentinels’ victory signals a promising new chapter, ENVY solidified their legitimacy, and Cloud9 learned that work remains to be done before the VCT season begins.
