Tier 2 teams dominate Tier 1 teams in VCT EMEA Stage 2 Play-Ins

For the first time ever, VCL teams are fighting for a ticket to the biggest event of the year against VCT teams in Stage 2.

The VALORANT Champions Tour 2026 - EMEA Stage 2 Play-Ins are officially over, and with three VCL teams qualifying for the Playoffs, it’s clear that the Tier 2 (T2) teams dominated the Tier 1 (T1) teams on their home stage. While many thought they stood no chance against the experienced Tier 1 teams of the VCT, Enterprise Esports, Eintracht Frankfurt, and Fire Flux Esports are now one step closer to VALORANT Champions Shanghai.

Big names eliminated from EMEA Stage 2

From the start, it was clear that the T2 teams were more dangerous than the T1 teams might have expected. In the opening matches, three VCT teams were immediately sent down to the lower bracket.

But it didn’t stop there. A total of five VCT teams were eliminated at the hands of VCL teams. Some of the biggest names in the league, including Fnatic, Natus Vincere, and Team Heretics, were among the teams sent packing.

Tier 1 vs Tier 2 win rates

A total of 12 matches were played between T1 and T2 teams, and T2 won 10 of them. That gives the VCL teams a win rate of roughly 83%.

Not only did the T2 teams come out on top in all but two of those matches, but they did so in dominant fashion. 6 of their 10 wins were 2-0 sweeps, with the T1 teams unable to secure a single map. In comparison, not a single T1 team managed to defeat a T2 team 2-0.

Looking at map wins in the T1 vs. T2 head-to-head, 29 maps were played, with T2 teams winning 24 of them. Again, that comes out to roughly an 83% map win rate. T1 teams, meanwhile, managed to win just 7 maps against the VCL teams.

A force to be reckoned with

As THESPIKE spoke to multiple VCT players who have been bested by VCL teams, they have all echoed the same sentiment: the T2 teams are hungry for wins and eager to prove themselves, making them incredibly difficult to stop on the server.

Their fearless playstyle has already paid off, and three teams are now ready to show just how badly they want that ticket to VALORANT Champions when the Playoffs begin on August 20.
