Dgzin reveals EG's desire to renew his contract: "That’s the plan”
Despite early eliminations from both VALORANT Champions Tour 2026 - Americas Kickoff and VALORANT Champions Tour 2026 - Americas Stage 1, Douglas "dgzin" Silva remains on solid ground with Evil Geniuses and is expected to remain with the organization. After being perhaps EG's best-performing player so far this VCT season, the Brazilian player revealed in an interview with THESPIKE Brazil that not only has he been asked for his input regarding the future of the project, but the team is also interested in renewing his contract.
"Nowadays, what I feel and what is being discussed with me is that the [EG] project revolves around me. So, like, if there’s any decision, it’s going to go through me. If they need to remove someone or bring someone in, the coaches come talk to me to see what I think about this or that, and they ask for my opinion, whether I have any ideas or any player in mind to maybe bring to them, you know?"
Dgzin's growing influence on Evil Geniuses is not something he was necessarily expecting, though. In fact, the Brazilian player shared that he still finds himself somewhat in disbelief at this turn of events: "Sometimes it even surprises me, I’m like: ‘Man, is this real? Do I really have all this influence?"
More importantly, it looks like dgzin is here to stay.
"They were even talking about renewing my contract, I think that’s the plan."
Dgzin to take on a bigger role on Evil Geniuses?
The fact is that, individually, dgzin may be experiencing the best moment of his career at the highest level of competitive VALORANT — not only because of the numbers, but because of the impact of his performances. Asked whether this is the best version of himself, the player answered that he still hasn’t reached it yet, but that this is a version with more consistency, maturity, and leadership, to the point that he wants to become an in-game leader (IGL) in the future.
"I think I’m reaching [my best version]... I think so, yeah. It’s a very consistent version. I’m able to be someone who talks a lot. I was even joking because in practice I was talking a lot along with the IGL, and then potter checked me a bit there. She said: ‘Do you want to become an IGL?’ I said: ‘I still need to improve my English before I try to become an IGL.’ I have a feeling inside the game where I can kind of understand what’s happening. So, I’m learning a lot about how to be a leader, be a better person, and use my words better."
The way things have progressed for dgzin within EG, becoming a captain is starting to feel like a natural next step for him.
"I have more freedom to speak within the team; something that, man, makes me really happy. So, I’m going to dedicate myself, I really want to become a captain in the future. I’m capable of it. I think those two hours of VoD review we have every day with potter are making me think about that. It’s a lot of insight; a lot going through my mind.”
