VALORANT unveils latest map “Corrode”
Riot Games is set to launch Corrode, the latest addition to VALORANT’s ever-growing map pool, with the release of Season 2025 // Act IV on June 25, 2025. A gritty fusion of medieval architecture and harsh industrial landscapes, Corrode presents players with a map that is as visually compelling as it is mechanically distinct.
A New Type of Challenge
At its core, Corrode is a 3-lane, 2-site map built with one key goal in mind: reducing the oppressive impact of overwhelming Agent utility. As VALORANT Lead Map Designer Joey Simas explains,
“With Corrode, we wanted to solidify everything we’ve learned so far while also taking on new challenges that our players are facing - like overwhelming Agent utility.”
To address this, Corrode emphasizes layered defenses and fallback positions, allowing defenders more chances to stand their ground even when bombarded with utility. This encourages more active site defense rather than heavy reliance on post-plant setups.
“Our hope is that Corrode relieves some of VALORANT’s utility pressure while rewarding careful planning and well-executed strategy”.
Visual Identity
Corrode stands out not just in gameplay but also in design. It’s the third map to take place on Omega Earth, a parallel world ravaged by climate collapse and Radianite exploitation. The visual storytelling is stark: ancient stone structures clash with rusted equipment and storm-battered facilities.
Players will also be treated to dynamic visual elements like salt storms, moving ATLAS carriers, and an active supercell storm rolling across the salt flats, making Corrode one of VALORANT’s most visually ambitious maps to date.
Competitive From Day One
To encourage players to dive into Corrode right away, Riot is rolling out RR incentives in the Competitive Queue. For the first two weeks post-launch, players will only lose 50% RR on losses but still gain full 100% RR for wins on Corrode.
A dedicated Swiftplay Corrode-only queue will also be available from June 25-30, giving players multiple ways to explore and master the map.
“We think this will help players get in and learn the map in a competitive setting without the fear of deranking,” says Armand Asdourian, Game Product Manager.
A New Skin Bundle to Accompany
Launching alongside Corrode is the Phaseguard Collection, a high-tech skinline featuring the Vandal, Outlaw, Ghost, Bulldog, and a sleek new Splitter melee. A brand-new Battlepass rounds out the update, with highlights including the 5 Years: Kill All Radiants Card, Bonsai Gun Buddy, and the ATLAS II CMD Vandal.
With Corrode, Riot Games pushes both gameplay and worldbuilding forward. It's a map built not just for beauty but for balance, one that offers defenders more agency while rewarding smart rotations and control of mid. As VALORANT continues to evolve into its sixth year, Corrode serves as a bold statement: maps can be both mechanically thoughtful and visually stunning, without sacrificing one for the other.
