VARREL sign Foxy9 from Gen.G for Esports World Cup 2026 run
Japanese-Korean outfit VARREL have officially confirmed the signing of Jung "Foxy9" Jae-sung from Gen.G Esports, bringing in the seasoned veteran specifically to bolster their Esports World Cup 2026 campaign. The announcement was made on the team's social media channels.
The signing arrives right at the tail end of VALORANT Champions Tour 2026 - Pacific Stage 1 playoffs—a stage VARREL failed to qualify for. Rather than a long-term roster overhaul, the team has been transparent about its intent: Foxy9 is here for EWC, and EWC alone. Whether or not the team decides to stick with this move for the long run remains to be seen.
Those wondering about the role clashes need not wonder anymore. Go "C1nder" Jae-hyuk has made way in the lineup, with Foxy9 slotting straight into the sentinel/controller position, which was a natural fit given his preferred agent pool. The shake-up doesn't stop there, though; Kim "Klaus" Min-hyuk has shifted into a support duelist role, teaming up alongside Jang "zexy" Suk-hyun in what looks like a refreshed tactical structure for VARREL's EWC push.
Foxy9's Form Coming In
Foxy9 exits Gen.G on a respectable note. In his most recent VCT Pacific appearance, he put together impressive Brimstone and Omen performances against Global Esports, showing his controller toolkit is still sharp, even if his side came up short against a GE squad firing on all cylinders.
The Korean player himself seems genuinely energised by the move, posting on X:
"I've finally joined this team that I've always watched from behind! Now I'm going to give you a boost and show you a growth drama that goes up to the next level. Please keep an eye on our progress!"
Already on the Grind
Although the official announcement came a few days late, Foxy9 has already made his debut in the VARREL kit. He has already been an integral part of VARREL's EWC Pacific online qualifier run, helping the team take down ZETA DIVISION and Team Secret in Phase 1. They now await the winner of Gen.G vs Team Secret to contest the finals, with a Phase 2 berth, which will put them in contention for one of three available EWC spots.
