100 Thieves advance to First Strike Semis after tight affair with T1

In an incredibly exciting and tight matchup, it was 100 Thieves who pulled out the victory in the First Strike Quarterfinals against T1. 100 Thieves were consistent all match long and brought both maps around in 13-10 fashion. They now advance to the semifinals tomorrow where they’ll play Sentinels, while T1 has fallen out of the event.

First up was Haven, and in a very interesting pick, 100 Thieves lined up with Joshua "steel" Nissan on Cypher, his first time playing the agent competitively. After winning the pistol somewhat comfortably on B site and taking the follow-up, Tyler "Skadoodle" Latham purchased all the way up to an Operator and picked up 3 kills to get T1 up 3-0 early. While Spencer "Hiko" Martin nailed two with his Sova ultimate, T1 continued their momentum with four more consecutively. Sam "DaZeD" Marine nailed a defuse with 0.09 seconds left, and while 100 Thieves managed to pull two back in their favour, they barely interrupted T1’s clinic of a half. It was 9-3 as the teams switched sides.

A botched 3v2 retake down C long gave 100 Thieves the second half pistol round, and by grabbing the first rifle round they began to close the score. Nicholas "nitr0" Cannella and steel pulled off a stellar 2v5 hold on C site, and with the following eco win, 100 Thieves had pulled off the comeback and tied things up. 100 Thieves even grabbed the lead off a flank by nitr0 before T1 won a single attacking round. Asuna nabbed three kills off one Run It Back, and as good as T1’s defense had been, 100 Thieves did them one better. In what was probably the most exciting map of North American First Strike yet, they took the win 13-10.

Steel was on Cypher again for T1’s pick of Bind, and on the other side, Ha "Sayaplayer" Jung-woo picked up Phoenix in a brand-new agent for himself. The first few rounds were standard, as the defending 100 Thieves won the pistol round and the follow-up, before T1 took the first rifle round. Peter "Asuna" Mazuryk and Spyder traded quad kills, and rounds continued to go back and forth. Ultimately, 100 Thieves would pull out ahead after some extremely close plays, such as a 3k clutch from Quan "dicey" Tran and a Showstopper through the teleporter from Asuna. The half ended 7-5.

After winning the pistol, T1 tied the match up with another big win in the fourth round of the half. Rounds were traded back and forth until 100 Thieves finally took several in a row and broke T1’s economy. A great Showstopper out of hookah by Asuna helped put 100 Thieves on match point, and while T1 staved them off for one more round, the consistency showed by 100 Thieves pulled it out in the end. Like the first, Bind ended 13-10, and 100 Thieves took the win 2-0.
