Gen.G send XSET home in the first elimination game of NA Masters
The first team to be eliminated from Stage 1 Masters North America is XSET, falling to Gen.G Esports in a relatively tight match. Both sides showed strengths, but Gen.G came up just ahead. They’ll advance to play the loser of Sentinels-100 Thieves next week.
Teams first went to Ascent, Gen.G’s pick. Gen.G would take the pistol and the follow-up, but XSET made it very costly both times, allowing them to take a few rounds early as well. XSET grabbed a few more, forcing Gen.G onto several ecos, and looked to start running away with it before some clean entries from Shawn "Shawn" O'Riley helped swing things back even. Jordan "AYRIN" He had a monstrous half to keep XSET ahead, though, and they’d stay that way, the score being 7-5 at the half.
Gen.G took the pistol round to begin the second half as well, and this time translated that into much more momentum moving forward. The rounds were exciting and close, but Gen.G began to pull ahead. XSET’s confidence was clearly low by the end, as their attacks began to break down quicker and quicker, and ultimately a Danny "HUYNH" Huynh ace closed out the map 13-8.
Moving on to Haven, the struggles continued for XSET. Gen.G proved to be incredibly strong at retake defense, with Shawn’s Phoenix helping to lock things down. XSET were also forced onto multiple ecos in just the first seven rounds. They managed to snag a few rounds closer to the end of the half, but just couldn’t consistently stop the Gen.G train. 9-3 was the score at the end of the half.
XSET finally got some things going on the second half, snagging the pistol round for a start, and managing to make some attacks work to get themselves on seven rounds.
XSET continued to make their attacks work, putting Gen.G on the back foot and running great retake defenses of their own. Ultimately, the difference proved to be too much to overcome, and Gen.G would find a flawless round to finish the map up 13-11.
