Vodafone Giants announced their VALORANT roster back in late June, and it didn’t take them long to start making some changes to the formula. The organization has announced the replacement of one of their VALORANT team members, with Jon “Jonba” Baraiazarra taking over Lucas “HITBOX” González-Sabariegos’ position as a player.

The announcement explains the decision was made due to HITBOX suffering an injury that will keep him occupied from training with the VALORANT team, and Vodafone Giants are looking to start their esports journey as soon as possible. Jonba is replacing HITBOX indefinitely until further decisions are made or he recovers earlier than expected from his setback. However, HITBOX will stay involved with content creation, in addition to giving strategic support to the team as a coach.

For those of you who don’t know Jonba, he kicked off his professional competitive Counter-Strike: Global Offensive career in 2015. He placed second in the Liga de Videojuegos Profesional Superliga 2017 and fourth WESG 2017 Iberia LAN Qualifier during his tenure with MAD Lions Esports Club. His final achievement came with DLL.ES, finishing 7th in the ESL Masters España Season 7: Open Qualifier.

As for his VALORANT career so far, Jon “Jonba” Baraiazarra played with Superstars, which makes him already familiar with Adolfo “Fit1nho” Gallego, Francesc “donQ” Savall, and Salvador “Yurii” Gasco. The move probably makes sense in terms of team chemistry, considering their familiarity with each other’s playstyles beforehand.

Do you think this decision will affect Vodafone Giants’ VALORANT team’s performances going forward? Do you believe more organizations should have substitute players and coaches for instances like these? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section down below.
