One of the biggest power spikes in Anime Expeditions doesn't come from pulling a new Mythic—it comes from rolling the right traits. A top-tier trait can dramatically increase a unit's damage, attack speed, range, or even completely change how it's used, making trait rerolls one of the most valuable resources in the game.

This guide explains how traits work, how to reroll them, every Mythic Trait, the best traits for each unit type, and when you should (or shouldn't) spend your Trait Crystals.

What are traits in Anime Expeditions?

Traits are permanent passive bonuses assigned to individual units. Every unit can have one trait, and rerolling replaces the current trait with a new random one.

Unlike Stat Potential, which improves a unit's base Damage, Range, and SPA values, trait provide unique bonuses that can significantly change how a character performs. Some increase raw DPS, while others improve critical hits, attack speed, or support capabilities.

Anime Expeditions traits work alongside every other progression system in the game, including:

    • Evolution
    • Equipment
    • Relics
    • Ascension
    • Stat Potential

Because of this, rolling the right traits is one of the biggest upgrades you can make for an endgame team.

How to reroll Anime Expeditions traits

Traits are rerolled at the Trait Reroll Station located in the Upgrade area of the lobby.

Each reroll requires: 1 Trait Crystal

Every reroll permanently replaces your current trait, so there's no option to revert to a previous roll. Because of this, it's generally recommended to save Trait Crystals for Mythic, Secret, or other long-term units rather than spending them on temporary Story carries.

    How to get Trait Crystals

Trait Crystals are rewarded from several progression systems throughout Anime Expeditions.

Some of the best sources include:

    • Story Mode
    • Quests
    • Beginner Path
    • Battle Pass
    • Daily rewards
    • Events
    • Raid Shop
    • Redeem Anime Expeditions codes

Although Event Shops often allow you to purchase Trait Crystals, new players shouldn't spend every Event Currency on rerolls.

If you're still building your first team, resources like Sprites, Equipment Rerolls, and Evolution materials usually provide more immediate progression than chasing a perfect trait.

    Every Mythic trait explained

Most players eventually aim for one of the game's Mythic traits. Each one specializes in a different role, making some traits significantly stronger on certain units than others.

    Mythic trait

    Best For

    Why It's Good

    Unbound

    Hyper carries, expensive DPS units

Grants the largest offensive boost in the game, making it ideal for units that deal massive damage with a single placement. The one-placement limit is rarely a downside for powerful carry units like Kenpachi.

    Primordial

    General-purpose DPS

A well-rounded trait that increases damage, attack speed (SPA), and range without major drawbacks. It's a safe and effective choice for almost any offensive unit.

    Forsaken

    Critical-hit and support builds

Increases both Critical Chance and Critical Damage while also boosting range. It excels on units that rely on crits or whose support abilities scale from nearby allies.

    Draconic

    Bleed and physical damage units

Enhances damage-over-time effects and physical DPS while allowing multiple placements. It's often the preferred choice for Bleed-focused units and characters whose passives benefit from having several copies on the field.

The best trait depends on the unit

One of the biggest mistakes new players make is assuming Unbound is automatically the best trait.

In reality, every unit has different abilities and passive mechanics, meaning the ideal Trait changes depending on how that character deals damage. Before spending hundreds of Trait Crystals chasing one specific Trait, consider how that unit's passive abilities actually work.

    Unit Role

    Best Trait Priority

    Recommendation

    Main DPS

    1. Unbound

    2. Primordial

    3. Draconic

    4. Forsaken

Prioritize raw damage. Unbound is ideal for hyper carries, while Primordial is the best all-around alternative.

    Bleed Units

    1. Draconic

    2. Forsaken

    3. Primordial

Draconic synergizes with damage-over-time effects and allows multiple placements, making it the best choice for Bleed-focused units.

    Critical-Based Units

    1. Forsaken

    2. Primordial

    3. Unbound

Forsaken's Critical Chance and Critical Damage bonuses make it the strongest option for crit-focused characters.

    Support Units

    Forsaken, Bolt, Primordial

Support units benefit more from cooldown reduction, range, and utility than maximum DPS. Premium Mythic Traits aren't always necessary.

    Economy Units

    Investor

Investor increases money generation, making it the best Trait for farm units and other economy-focused characters.

    Should you reroll early-game units?

    Generally, no.

One of the biggest progression mistakes is spending valuable Trait Crystals on characters you'll replace after only a few Story chapters.

Instead, reroll traits only after you've obtained:

    • A Mythic you'll keep
    • A Secret unit
    • A core Raid unit
    • Your permanent Story carry

Saving 100 Trait Crystals for one great unit is almost always more efficient than spreading them across temporary characters.

    Avoid these 6 mistakes

    1. Spending Trait Crystals on Epic or Legendary units.
    2. Assuming Unbound is always the best trait.
    3. Ignoring unit passives before rerolling.
    4. Spending all Event Currency on Trait Crystals instead of progression materials.
    5. Chasing perfect traits before evolving your team.
    6. Rerolling characters you'll eventually replace.

As the meta continues to evolve and new characters are released, trait priorities will likely change. Understanding how a unit functions is far more valuable than blindly rerolling until you see a specific color.
