Aspas sets new VCT kill record in Kickoff match against KRU
In a showstopper for a performance, Erick "aspas" Santos set a new VCT kill record for a best-of-3 (BO3) match during his team's match against KRÜ Esports at the VCT 2025 - Americas Kickoff.
Despite losing the opening map of the series, aspas decided to take matters into his own hands by putting up 29 kills in each of two final maps, securing the win for MIBR while putting up a whopping total of 82 kills in the process.
After his latest display against KRU, the question needs to be asked, is there anything aspas can't do?
Aspas continues to make history
With his latest 82-kill spectacle, the Brazilian sharpshooter shattered the previous VCT record for most kills in a BO3. The previous owner of the record? Aspas himself. Well, partly, at least.
The previous record of 78 kills was reached by aspas in a match against Cloud9 during the VCT 2024 - Americas Stage 1. The title, however, was held along with Yuma "Dep" Hashimoto, who also amassed 78 kills with ZETA DIVISION.
Tired of sharing, however, aspas went out there and shattered this previous record, along with KRU's hopes and dreams, to book MIBR a bout against Sentinels for a chance to secure the last Americas ticket to VCT 2025 - Masters Bangkok 2025.
Can aspas do it again?
With qualification to Masters Bangkok on the line, MIBR's match against Sentinels will feature the first BO5 match of Kickoff. And with it, aspas has the chance to break yet another record.
Currently, Zheng "ZmjjKK" Yongkang holds the record for most BO5 kills in the VCT after getting himself up to 111 during VCT 2024 - Champions 2024. As unlikely as it seems that he would go ahead and break this record too only a day after shattering the BO3 kill record, the fact that Bangkok is on the line might push aspas to pull out something magical once more.
