BBL lovers rock after VCT EMEA exit: “We genuinely love this game”

The last dance for BBL Esports came against fellow Turkish side Fire Flux Esports, a familiar opponent that had only recently emerged from Challengers. With the final spot at the VALORANT Champions Tour 2026 - EMEA Stage 2 finals weekend on the line, BBL struggled to find their best form when it mattered most, missing their chance to qualify for VALORANT Champions Shanghai.

Umut "lovers rock" Pekdoğan spoke with THESPIKE about the team’s journey and the crucial role his family has played in supporting him throughout his career as a professional player.

A lot of emotions to unpack

For lovers rock, the pressure of knowing this could be his final match of the season was certainly present, though he could not say for sure whether it contributed to the team’s downfall in the tournament. Nevertheless, he praised Fire Flux for their efforts and performances over the past couple of weeks.

I don't really feel much right now. I can't. It's all frustration, disappointment, and all the bad emotions. They're a good team, and we were supposed to play better than we did, but we couldn't. Of course, there was more pressure, but I don't know if that was the reason we lost.

When asked if he was happy with his year despite the loss, lovers rock’s answer was short and direct. He wasn’t. He was disappointed to miss VALORANT Champions 2026, one of his biggest dreams.

However, he also recognizes the team’s strong momentum at the beginning of the year, looking back fondly on the good moments, including winning VALORANT Champions Tour 2026 - EMEA Kickoff.

In their international debut at the VALORANT Champions Tour 2026 - Masters Santiago 2026, BBL secured an impressive 5th-6th place finish.

Winning Kickoff was great. Our Stage 1 was bad, but we still managed to qualify for the Esports World Cup. We were playing well, but we couldn’t make it further in the competition. Those were the best moments of the year for us. Even in Stage 2, we were playing well until the Playoffs.

Turkish talent and family support

When the new BBL roster entered VCT EMEA with an entirely new lineup of talented young Turkish players, they highlighted just how much talent the country continues to produce, particularly when it comes to professional first-person shooter esports. The reason the team worked so well was that, at the end of the day, they were all friends.

We are really good friends outside of the server, and we’re also really good teammates. Most of the Turkish players in EMEA are very talented, deeply invested in the game, and genuinely love playing it. That’s why they’re so good.

During these difficult moments, lovers rock’s family and friends have been important pillars of support. While he remains uncertain about what the future holds, especially with the upcoming changes to the circuit, he hopes they will continue to be there for him every step of the way.

They are all supportive. My family and friends always have our backs, and I’m so happy to have them. I hope they continue supporting us in the future.

VCT EMEA 2026: Stage 2

With this loss, BBL Esports can no longer qualify for VALORANT Champions 2026 through VCT Championship Points. Their elimination also secured Team Vitality's spot at the competition, making the race for the remaining qualification spots even tighter for teams such as Team Heretics.

The competition now heads to Barcelona for the final weekend of the tournament, where the champion will be crowned and the remaining European teams to qualify for VALORANT Champions 2026 will be decided.
