dgzin on joining Evil Geniuses: "This EG opportunity is something that can change my life"
After stints with FURIA and LOUD, Douglas "dgzin" Silva is back in the VCT Americas, though this time in an entirely new jersey. Now on Evil Geniuses, the 25-year-old Brazilian player arrives more eager than ever to prove himself and show that he has what it takes to remain at the top level of VALORANT esports.
In an exclusive interview with THESPIKE Brazil, dgzin spoke openly about his desire to return to the VCT and discussed further details regarding his move to the North American organization.
“What I think is: whenever you find yourself in slightly worse situations — like I mentioned, it was very difficult to return [to the VCT] — I always look for something to see how I could come back. So, dedicating myself more, learning more, doing new things so I could really raise my level. I believe that this EG opportunity is something that can change my life for good because, besides playing on an American team, I’ll be communicating in English, so that already opens doors for other things in the future.”
Giving Evil Geniuses his all
Despite falling short of winning VALORANT Champions Tour 2025 - Ascension Americas with Team Solid back in October, dgzin finds himself back in the VCT all the same thanks to Evil Geniuses. Now, he's ready to give his new team everything he's got.
“I think I’m a very dedicated guy, I’ve always said that, I’m not ashamed to say it. I’m the guy who arrives early and is the last to leave every day. I don’t mind being tired if it means things will flow for the team. I’ve always said that effort is what brought me my achievements. I’ve always given up everything for my team. I’ve always given up everything for collective and individual success. So I believe that this time [at EG] won’t be any different. I’m going to dedicate myself to making it happen.”
A final chance?
While this is his second time rising into the VCT, dgzin feels it could also be his last. With that in mind, dgzin knows his performance will dictate his future from now, and that means making the most of his past experiences.
“I think yes, this is my last chance to be in the VCT. Unfortunately, my stints [with FURIA and LOUD] weren’t that good. I think with every team I played on, I had good performances. I managed to achieve some things, except now with LOUD. But even then at LOUD, I feel like I had a good performance. I feel that if we had more collective effort, we could have gone much further, being totally honest. So nowadays, you gather a lot of experience, right? From both good and bad things.”
A spot at the highest level doesn't open up every day, and EG's new signing knows that consistency will be the name of the game moving forward.
“Nowadays I feel that my game is becoming a bit more consistent, something I aim for every day. And I have the support of guys I never imagined having in my life. That will make my game flow a lot easier. And that’s it. I don’t want to prove anything to anyone anymore; I want to prove to myself that I’m capable. I want to play the full year in the VCT. When you have a new team like this, some things take time. Some people don’t understand that, but people who have won things say that. But that’s it, man, show up to dominate, with a clear, calm, cold head, and do my job with the team.”
New Evil Geniuses, New Expectations
Regarding expectations for the next competitive VALORANT season, dgzin once again promised even more dedication to “make it work” at EG, especially because he has felt welcomed in a very different to what he experienced in Brazil in the past.
“From me, the guys have been seeing it… noticing it… I’m becoming more dedicated each day. I’m a very humble guy; I know how to recognize my mistakes. I’m very happy with this opportunity — I won’t waste it. I’m in a project where I know people truly believe, it’s not just talk. These are players on the team who are talented. I want to make this work. It’s even strange; sometimes you’re on a Brazilian team with your buddies, with people you think like you, but things are totally different. The way the guys embraced me here [at EG]… I’m not hyping them up because they’re foreigners, but it’s totally different. They recognize your value. I receive messages from countless guys who have already won titles in VALORANT, in a much more humble way than, I don’t know, any message I ever got from a teammate I had in Brazil. That makes me want to give even more of myself, to give myself fully for the team.”
And when it comes to team performance, dgzin has no doubts Evil Geniuses will show up to play. In fact, in the short time he has spent with the team, the Brazilian player has already found himself pleasantly surprised by his new teammates, particularly by Phat "supamen" Le and coach Christine "Potter" Chi.
“Now, collectively, the guys have been surprising me a lot. I was really impressed by supamen’s playstyle. I already thought he was very good, but there will be some new things coming, and I think potter is very interesting in that regard. A lot of things are going to flow, man. I have faith. We’re going to dedicate ourselves and chase it. We’re going to show up with blood in our eyes. And man, I’ve already said it: whoever betrayed me will pay. I don’t forget. It’s written down.”
