G2 Esports become first team to qualify for VALORANT Champions 2025
G2 Esports has officially become the first team to qualify for VALORANT Champions Tour 2025 - Valorant Champions, marking a major milestone in what has been a remarkable journey through the VCT ecosystem.
Leo Faria, Global Head of VALORANT Esports, also confirmed the qualification on X.
“G2 is not only the first team qualified for Champions Paris… they’ve guaranteed, at a minimum, a chance to defend their slot. 2G can still qualify for Champs and finish ahead of G2.”
The current G2 roster earned their place in VCT Americas by winning the VCT 2023 - Challengers Ascension: AMERICAS. This was the first time RIOT had introduced the Ascension tournaments, and the roster had just made history. But The Guard, who had won the 2023 edition of Ascension, were controversially denied entry into VCT Americas due to failing to meet Riot’s Team Participation Agreement requirements. While the specific reasons weren’t disclosed, it left the North American scene without a new representative - until G2 stepped in and signed the full Guard roster.
Consistent Contenders in the Americas
Since joining the partnered league, G2 Esports has quickly become one of the most consistent and formidable teams in the VCT Americas region. Despite a modest debut at the VCT 2024 - Americas Kick-off with a 5th-place finish, the team hit their stride shortly afterward. They secured a 2nd-place finish in VCT 2024 - Americas Stage 1, followed by a strong 3rd-place performance at VCT 2024 - Masters Shanghai.
While their run at VCT 2024 - Champions 2024 saw them exit in 7th-8th place, G2 responded with renewed determination. They won VALORANT Champions Tour 2025 - Americas Kickoff, placed 2nd at VALORANT Champions Tour 2025 - Masters Bangkok 2025, and most recently took 1st in VALORANT Champions Tour 2025 - Americas Stage 1. And now, the team is in the lower bracket of VALORANT Champions Tour 2025 - Masters Toronto 2025, but they’ve managed to secure their spot at Champions 2025 in Paris via Championship points alone.
Looking Ahead
With their ticket to Paris already booked, G2 Esports has not only cemented themselves as a top-tier VALORANT team, but they’ve also validated their promotion through Ascension. The road from uncertainty to global contender has been nothing short of inspiring - and they’re not done yet.
