G2 Gozen sent packing as MIBR GC move ahead in lower bracket
The queens of Game Changers have fallen. In one of the most intense matchups of the VALORANT Champions Tour 2025 - Game Changers Championship in Bangkok, MIBR GC eliminated the 2022 champions, G2 Gozen, in the lower bracket quarterfinals. The result marks the end of G2’s campaign, who now exit the tournament in 5th–6th place, an outcome few could have imagined when the event began.
G2’s Tournament Run
Coming into the GCC, G2 Gozen were one of the favorites. The EMEA powerhouse arrived with experience, pedigree, and high expectations. Even with changes to their championship winning 2022 lineup, they entered Bangkok looking like genuine contenders for another title.
Their opening match gave the fans a show of that form. As the EMEA top seed, G2 started their campaign in the upper bracket quarterfinals, where they brushed aside Nova Esports GC with a dominant 2-0 sweep. The synergy, confidence, and discipline were all there. But things began to unravel in their next match against Team Liquid Brazil.
In a tense series, Liquid’s aggression and clutch factor proved too much for G2 to handle. The final map, Split, went to overtime, ending in a heartbreaking 14-12 loss that sent G2 tumbling into the lower bracket. It was a setback, but one many expected them to recover from – until history repeated itself.
Another Overtime Heartbreak
Fate had other plans for G2. Facing the other Brazilian squad in MIBR GC, G2 found themselves fighting for survival. The series went the distance once again, with Split as the decider once again. G2 looked dominant at first, racing to a 10-2 lead. But what followed was one of the most shocking collapses of the tournament.
MIBR mounted an incredible comeback, forcing overtime and ultimately closing the map 14-12 – the exact same scoreline that doomed G2 against Liquid Brazil. The loss not only knocked them out but also deepened their struggles against Brazilian teams, who seem to have found a knack for dismantling G2 on the big stage.
Brazil: G2’s Kryptonite
With this defeat, G2 Gozen’s record against Brazilian squads in Game Changers Championships now stands at 3-4, including these two painful losses in Bangkok. The streak continues a trend from previous years, where they were eliminated in 3rd place by MIBR in 2024 and by Team Liquid Brazil in 2023. This year’s 5th–6th finish marks their lowest placement in the event’s history, a concerning dip for the EMEA giants.
MIBR GC’s Revenge Tour Continues
For MIBR GC, this win is more than just progression, it’s a path to redemption. After falling 3-0 to Shopify Rebellion Gold in the 2024 grand final, they are now on another lower bracket run, but this one is filled with determination and fire. Their next match is against KRÜ Blaze in the lower bracket semifinal, while Shopify Rebellion Gold and Team Liquid Brazil clash in the upper bracket to decide the first grand finalist.
As for G2 Gozen, the offseason will be a period of reflection. Once the undisputed queens of Game Changers, they now face critical questions about adaptation and consistency. Their dominance in EMEA remains unchallenged, but on the global stage, it seems the Brazilian storm continues to haunt them.
