Gen.G Part Ways with Yoman after four months
In a surprising roster move, Gen.G Esports have officially parted ways with Chae "yoman" Young-mun just four months after his arrival. The decision was made by mutual agreement, and the 28-year-old now finds himself a free agent ahead of VCT Pacific Stage 1.
The organization expressed gratitude for yoman’s contributions, stating,
“Today, we have mutually agreed to end our contract with yoman from Gen.G Valorant. We thank yoman for his dedication to the team, and we wish him all the best in his future.”
This marks a swift departure for the South Korean player, who was signed in October 2024 after one of Gen.G's most successful seasons in VALORANT.
A Promising Start but a Tough Adjustment
Yoman joined Gen.G in October 2024, arriving alongside Jung "Foxy9" Jae-sung to replace Kim "Meteor" Tae-O and Kim "Lakia" Jong-min. The move was expected to reinforce the roster that had won VCT 2024 - Masters Shanghai earlier that year. Before signing with Gen.G, yoman played for Nongshim RedForce and was part of their starting lineup for the VCL - Korea Split 2.
His role in Gen.G was meant to fill the void left by Lakia, with early speculation suggesting that he might take over in-game leading duties from Byeon "Munchkin" Sang-beom. However, those expectations did not materialize, as Munchkin retained the role throughout their matches.
Despite early promise, his integration into the team’s playstyle proved challenging. While he contributed valuable firepower, his approach did not fully align with Gen.G’s structured, utility-heavy strategies—especially those designed to elevate Kim "t3xture" Na-ra, the team’s star duelist.
Mixed Results in the Offseason
During yoman’s tenure, Gen.G saw success in OFF//SEASON tournaments, winning both the VCT OFF Season 2024 - TEN Valorant Asia Invitational 2024 and the VCT OFF Season 2024 - Gwangju Esports Series Asia. They also secured a runner-up finish at the SVL - Main Event, showcasing their potential.
However, when it mattered most, Gen.G fell short. Their VCT 2025 - Pacific Kickoff campaign ended in third place, missing out on a spot at VCT 2025 - Masters Bangkok 2025 after a loss to the eventual champions, T1. This disappointment may have influenced the decision to restructure the roster heading into the next stage of competition.
What’s Next for Gen.G and Yoman?
With only two weeks until the start of VCT Pacific Stage 1, Gen.G now face the challenge of finding and integrating a replacement in time for their opening match against BOOM Esports. As for yoman, his future remains uncertain, but with his experience and skillset, he is expected to attract interest from teams looking for an experienced flex player or secondary caller.
Current Gen.G Roster
- Kim "t3xture" Na-ra
- Kim "Karon" Won-tae
- Byeon "Munchkin" Sang-beom
- Jung "Foxy9" Jae-sung
- Kang "solo" Keun-chul remains as Head Coach.
With a new roster change in the works, all eyes will be on Gen.G to see if they can reclaim their form from last season and make a deep run in VCT 2025 - Pacific Stage 1.
