End of an Era: Global Esports bids farewell to VALORANT and competitive gaming
After nearly a decade in competitive esports, Global Esports has officially announced its complete shutdown of professional gaming operations. The bombshell announcement came right at the end of the 2026 VCT season, after LOUD became the second-time world champions.
Just a few months ago, Global Esports were at the top of the VALORANT esports world, having won VALORANT Champions Tour 2026 - Pacific Stage 2 and heading into VALORANT Champions Tour 2026 - Champions Shanghai as the first seed from Pacific.
Going Out at the Peak
Co-Founder and CEO Dr. Rushindra Sinha broke the news on social media with a poignant message: "Goodbye Global Esports 👊 #GEFought".
Tributes quickly poured in from across the industry, including from Jake Sin, Head of VALORANT Esports APAC at Riot Games, who thanked Sinha for four incredible years in VCT Pacific and remarked on what "a way to go out—as VCT Pacific champions no less!".
Marking the final chapter for their community, Global Esports also placed its official GE Champions jersey on permanent leave, offering fans one last chance to own a piece of their historic run.
The Strategic Pivot to GE Studios
While the announcement surprised many in the community, Sinha revealed that the decision had been in motion for a year, having signaled to Riot Games in late 2025 that 2026 would likely be their final year in competitive gaming. Rather than maintaining esports rosters, the organization is pivoting entirely to GE Studios, an AI-powered venture.
Synthesizing ten years of digital brand building and media production, Sinha explained that "everything we've done in the last decade is now going to be powered and amplified with AI".
The active roster has been officially disbanded, with players entering free agency as GE shifts its focus from competitive stages to artificial intelligence innovation.
What GE's Departure Means for South Asia
Global Esports' exit marks a significant turning point for South Asian esports. As the sole partnered representative from India and the broader South Asian region in VCT Pacific, GE was the cornerstone of regional representation on the global VALORANT stage.
With VCT moving toward a restructured tournament framework in 2027 and partnered slots capped at eight, South Asia loses its guaranteed seat among Pacific elite teams. While non-partnered regional teams will still have opportunities through open qualifiers, they will need to battle through intense competition across Asia and Oceania.
Despite the challenge ahead, Global Esports leaves behind a storied legacy, proving that South Asian esports can reach the absolute summit of international competition.
