Guild’s first International test - Masters Copenhagen

Various close tries and different roster dynamics to reach a single goal, to compete on the international stage. Guild Esports’s dreams have come true and there is very little time for them to show their capabilities in VCT 2022 - Stage 2 - Masters Copenhagen. Group Stage

The VCT 2022 - EMEA - Stage 2 - Challengers - Main Event Group Stage was the perfect place for Guild to show their dominance and book their Denmark ticket. Just like every other team, they played 5 games but unlike the others, except Team Liquid, they won 4 of the matches to take the leadership spot. Guild and Liquid had the same wins and losses but thanks to their 2-1 win against their opponents as well as the better round difference stat, GLD were one step ahead. Until the last game of the Group Stage, Guild won all four of their games, sweeping M3 Champions and BBL Esports, and taking down Team Liquid and BIG after two 3-map series. However, their series ended after the unexpected loss against Natus Vincere in the last game of the stage. Despite losing a game, the standings stayed the same as Guild clinched the first spot to qualify for the playoffs.

Playoffs

Finishing the Group Stage at the top of the standings granted Guild a round-bye and their journey started from the Upper Bracket Semi Final. In other words, they only needed one win to qualify for the first international event in franchise history. M3 Champions wanted to bounce back after their inconsistent performances throughout the Group Stage and it was their chance to shine against the leader. However, Guild Esports were too good and the eagerness of the players took the scene as they closed out the series after a one-sided sweep, 13-6 on Breeze and 13-11 on Fracture. M3C had opportunities to come back but they failed to use them. As they reached the Upper Bracket Final, Guild booked themselves a ticket to Copenhagen and the only aim they had in the short term was to lift the EMEA trophy. Group A’s undefeated leader, Fnatic, were the opponent in the Upper Bracket Final. After two close games, Fnatic closed out the series with a sweep, 13-9 on Bind and 13-11 on Haven. Guild had another chance to bounce back and compete in the Grand Final and the only way to do that was to take down FunPlus Phoenix in the Lower Bracket Final. Despite showing dominant performances throughout the Group Stage, Guild failed to keep their performance in the playoffs, especially against the strongest teams that they faced. FunPlus Phoenix won the series with a score of 3-0. They wiped Guild members on Fracture and Split as both maps ended 13-4. Guild’s only presence was on Haven as they grabbed 11 rounds but still fell short. However, their trip to Copenhagen was already set and they had lots of time to practice to improve their strategies and chemistry.

Preferred Maps

Obviously, Guild Esports were one of the teams that played the most maps in the region as they reached the Lower Bracket Final. During their Group Stage run, Guild Esports’s most picked map was Icebox but it was not their best map looking at the results. They picked the map 2 times and played 3 times but secured only 1 win. Interestingly, they won both Ascent maps even though both weren’t their picks. When it comes to the playoffs, Guild Esports tried to show their strengths on Haven but both tries failed. They had 2 map wins throughout the playoffs, both against M3C, on Breeze and Fracture. We may see some different map picks from them as Haven did not work against strong teams.

Player to watch

• Leo "Leo" Jannesson

The Guild Esports roster consists of very important talents and role players but one of them is surely having a blast-out period in his career, Leo. In the last three months, Leo played 20 maps and picked Sova 10 times. He holds a 1.25 rating on the agent, second-best of him, in 216 rounds and a 1.35 K/D to help his team reach VCT 2022 - Stage 2 - Masters Copenhagen. He is one of the best Sova players not only in EMEA but maybe even in the world. Other than his recent performance, the Swedish player holds a 1.29 rating since the beginning of his career.

Alongside Leo, Guild Esports’ Nikita "trexx" Cherednichenko also had great performances and played a huge role in his team’s success. We will be taking him as the “honorable mention” as he held a 1.11 rating in the last three months. His most-picked agent is Raze 10 times and he had a 240.50 ACS with the agent to help his team on the battlefield.
