The opening weekend of VCT 2023 - Americas League keeps delivering some entertaining matchups and it was Cloud9 that took the win against Evil Geniuses. There were ongoing speculations regarding the expectations from Cloud9’s new roster following the departure of yay and Vanity; however, they were able to reinforce their presence in the scene with the win against a fellow NA team. THESPIKE.GG was granted the opportunity to sit down with Alexander "jawgemo" Mor for his thoughts on the game and individual performance involved following the loss.

Jawgemo talks about Harbor in the meta

THESPIKE.GG: The loss was pretty unfortunate what were your immediate thoughts?

Jawgemo: A little frustrated, like we had technical issues coming into today’s matchup. I know that stuff breaks but it also throws you off slightly. We were still all confident in what we're doing but I feel like we got unlucky on some of the maps especially on Pearl.

THESPIKE.GG: You mentioned Pearl. What do you think was the reason that EG’s defense fell through?

Jawgemo: I think we were drawn out. It was just that the common angles you can spam on with both team’s comp worked more in their favor. We were trying to get the wing man down but there was just a lot of utilities being spammed and ultimately it didn’t work out. But we are definitely going to go back and fix some of those things for future matchups. We will really dig deep and try to figure out what we can do in terms of getting better set plays and planning counters.

THESPIKE.GG: On a scale of 1-10, how would you rate your individual performance?

Jawgemo: I'm going to give myself a solid five and a half today. I wasn't really feeling it. It didn't seem like we were playing like ourselves. I gave myself a five because I knew I could do better.

THESPIKE.GG: Was the reason for a lower rating utility usage or aim mechanics being off?

Jawgemo: It was more the utilities definitely. Our aim was fine, but now we know the counters to set our set plays and we can find a way to defend them for the next time around.

THESPIKE.GG: This game was also one of the first times you played Harbor on stage. How was the experience like and do you think he has a role in the meta?

Jawgemo: I just think Harbor gives you a lot of control, especially if you're playing with Skye, you can push wall, and get that general space zoned out for the flash. It helps you in zoning areas out with the cascade, and especially the high tide, where people get slow when they walk through. I think it was pretty nice for what we have for it, and I believe it does have a spot in the meta.

THESPIKE.GG: How concerned does losing your first matchup at the event make you considering how impactful they will be to ultimate placement?

Jawgemo: Obviously, we want to win but we have to also make sure that our game plan as a team is pristine so we're going to be working on that. I think the standings are something we're not really worried about right now.

THESPIKE.GG: What are your thoughts on facing 100 Thieves as your next opponents?

Jawgemo: I mean, we played them a few times before but didn't have a lot of success. However, coming in with the new squad, I think we have some maps that we are certain we can take from them and I feel like it'll be a great match for us.
