“My most struggled season I’ve had since franchising” – G2 jawgemo reflects on his performance

The first elimination games of the VALORANT Champions Tour 2026 - Americas Stage 2 Playoffs have started, with the first match featuring G2 Esports and FURIA. While FURIA looked poised to take the series 2-0, G2 eventually found their rhythm and sent FURIA packing with a 2-1 victory.

THESPIKE had the opportunity to talk to G2’s Alexander "jawgemo" Mor after the game to discuss the squad’s momentum troubles, his performance this season, and much more.

“It was a bit stressful. I think the first game was slow. Sometimes we have this in G2 where, when we lose the first game, we're not doing as hot and then we kind of ramp back up into the series. I would say it kind of happened today a little bit.”

    Getting slow starts

Against FURIA, G2 looked quite out of sync on the first map and for the first half of the second map. Giving up entries to FURIA and failing to convert man advantages, it looked like G2 was going to be eliminated from the playoffs early.

However, in the second half of Sunset, they finally woke up, took control of the game, and brought the series to a decider, which they also won. Recently, this has been a pattern for G2: starting slow and climbing back into the game later on. According to jawgemo, the team has to adjust to their opponents faster.

“Whenever some stuff doesn't go our way, we have to kind of climb out of a hole that we're in. I think sometimes we figure out how to do that, but sometimes it's just not working. It's basically just adjusting and figuring out how the enemy's playing against us and how we would adjust to it. When it does come hard, it takes a toll on us. I wouldn't say vibe-wise; I would say more tactically. Sometimes we're just not fully understanding what we're doing, or we're not trusting our own calls. Because of that, we just keep falling short and going farther and farther down that hole.”

    Reflecting on his own performance

Throughout 2026, VCT Americas fans have been seeing a different side of jawgemo. Previously, he was the fragging king, constantly shredding his opponents. This year, however, he has taken on a more laid-back role, something he believes is largely dependent on the team’s roles and composition.

THESPIKE: How do you feel about your individual performance?

jawgemo: “It's probably my most struggled season I’ve had since franchising started, I would say.

There were a lot of changes this year and a lot of different things that had to be done to get our roles perfected, I guess. So it's a little bit harder for me to shine.

I'm not really worried about the frags especially. I think it's more what I do for the team. Objectively, I think I'm doing a lot more than I used to do, but I'm also not getting the same amount of kills because there's not that much chaos within our comp. We don't have a double duelist; we have a double controller, whatever the case is.

My stats aren't the greatest. I don't think I'm fragging all the time, but when I do, at least I know this is ramping me up for Champs or this Playoff run. When it matters, I think I'll be able to keep my form or do better than what I'm doing now and try to take it home for the guys.”

    Growing as a player

Three years ago, jawgemo lifted the VCT 2023 - Champions trophy with the Evil Geniuses squad. At the time, he was known as one of the best duelists in the world. When comparing himself as a player now to where he was then, he can see the growth he has made since joining G2.

THESPIKE: What growth have you seen in yourself since then, and do you think it's time for another Champs trophy this year?

jawgemo: “I would definitely say I'm more knowledgeable about the game now. I think Josh "JoshRT" Lee and the coaching staff kind of taught me a different way of how to play the game, while I still have my own insights into what I need to do to win the round in those certain moments, whether it's for the other guys or myself.

Before, I was able to connect well with teammates like Max "Demon1" Mazanov and that old core group because we knew how each other worked. Now that I'm getting that insight into what I used to do with that group, I'm kind of influencing it within this team.”

Another difference is jawgemo’s attitude on stage. In the past, fans rarely saw him standing up, but now he is more hyped on stage and uses that energy to encourage his teammates.

“I'm standing up now. I never stood up before. I told the guys, "I never stood up for any other team." I stood up one time in Champs, and that's whenever I knew that I was involved and really into the game. But now you see me standing up because I want the guys to know that they're doing good. I want to know that I'm doing good. I think this team is just building in a different way that I've never expected it would.”

    Next up: Leviatán

Their next matchup is against another strong team, Leviatán. The LATAM squad lost to 100 Thieves in the upper bracket and had time to prepare for their upcoming match against G2. For jawgemo and G2, the match is an extremely important one.

jawgemo: “They don't look as good as I thought they would. They beat MIBR, which was a pretty good win, but the last series was just—I was really confused.

I don't really know that much about how they're going to make it work, but I think they're still a good team. I'm not sure what their goal is within their comp sometimes.

Because of that, it's a little bit easier for me to understand how they're playing against us. They're kind of doing the same thing or just trying to work on their baseline, which makes it easier for me as a player to understand how to beat them on the server.

I definitely know they want revenge versus us. I think they have more points than us in the Champions race as well, so this game will solidify us making Champs.”
