Sentinels victorious in hyped matchup with 100 Thieves
Sentinels and 100 Thieves was set up as one of the most hyped matches North American (and global) VALORANT had ever seen. With new addition Tyson "TenZ" Ngo going up against the First Strike champions, big viewership and tight gameplay was expected. It took a bit, but ultimately, this series delivered on both counts. Winners Sentinels will play FaZe Clan in the upper bracket finals, while 100T move down to the lower bracket where they'll match up against Gen.G Esports.
Sentinels dominated Ascent from start to finish. It was a massive performance from duelists Hunter "SicK" Mims and TenZ as 100 Thieves only took two rounds all map long. Sentinels were ready for everything 100T tried, not giving them an inch en route to the thrashing.
Haven was immediately closer. Sentinels and 100T traded rounds back-and-forth early on, resulting in a tied 3-3 game. But then, Sentinels’ game plan began to come to fruition. They let 100T come to them and picked them off early, opening up a large lead. 100T would snag the last round of the half to keep things at 8-4, but it was still big half for Sentinels.
100T would flip the script in the second half, though. By winning the first three rounds, Sentinels were forced onto some ecos, allowing 100T to tie the score. Sentinels worked an incredibly aggressive defense, which worked spectacularly some times and was picked apart by 100T on others.
A nice site defense from TenZ and Jared "zombs" Gitlin kept things even, though, and the teams would trade defensive rounds to keep the scoreline moving up. Sentinels then played a great postplant to win an attacking round, and with 100T’s backs against the wall, Sentinels played things calmly to close out the game. Haven went to Sentinels 16-14, and the series 2-0.
