Shopify Rebellion sign Vanity as their IGL

Being granted a direct entry spot to the Challenger League Split 1 meant that Shopify Rebellion had a significantly less hurdled path to VALORANT Champions Tour events in 2023. However, their lack of participation in preliminary tournaments left them in the dark for a march harsher reality when they were pitted against the best unfranchised players in the region.

After winning their initial matchup against Turtle Troop, they encountered one loss after another finishing with an unpleasant record of 1-5, not only placing 10th overall at the tournament and earning a measly 4 points but also failing to qualify for the mid-season invitational.

Considering these losses and the implications it will bear in terms of seeding following Challengers Split 2, the decision to bring on Anthony "vanity" Malaspina is not surprising. The former member of the Cloud9 core will be replacing Will "dazzLe" Loafman, who had been a member of Shopify’s roster since June 2022. During his time with Shopify, he perfected the role of Skye, Sova and Fade as per the team’s requirements with varying success in each position.

Vanity had been a key player on the Cloud9 roster where he perfected the role of IGL and led the team to VCT 2021 - VALORANT Champions 2021 finishing with a noteworthy placement compared to their NA counterparts. He was tasked with playing Controller agents such as Omen, Viper, and Brimstone maintaining a consistent rating of 1.01 on 188 ACS over the last year. His addition to the team, compounded by that of Travis "Tdawgg" Regan as the assistant coach has the chance of rekindling the team’s chances of securing a higher placement on the VCT leaderboard at the conclusion of Challenger League Split 2 and ultimately set their eyes on a Ascension spot.
