Tejo dominates pick rate during VCT Americas Stage 1
The dust has settled, the stage is clear, and a new champion has been crowned for VCT Americas. G2 Esports has earned their place as the best team in the region by taking down Sentinels in a riveting series, and looking back at VCT 2025 - Americas Stage 1, there was one agent that was a must-pick for every team in the league.
Tejo was, by far, the most important agent in competitive play in the Americas, holding a commanding 54.23 percent pick rate throughout the stage. He was the only agent with a pick rate over 50 percent, and was the only agent used on every single map. Omen was the second-most played agent with a 40.77 percent pick rate, while Breach was third with a 39.23 percent pick rate.
G2 Esports’ Trent "trent" Cairns actually only played Tejo for the entire season and was absolutely stellar on the pick, helping his team to a championship. His kit made him far too valuable to not have in a team composition, boasting abilities that could flush out enemies from hiding spots or protect the spike from a safe spot, give important intel to teammates, and clear out a site as you dive in on attack.
In fact, Tejo was so dominant that many pro players complained about the agent, such as Cloud9’s superstar duelist Francis "OXY" Hoang. He said he hates the current meta because people don’t even need to use their guns to win rounds, they can just play off site and use utility to defend the spike from defusal. He was also called “game-breaking” by Evil Geniuses’ head coach Christine "Potter" Chi.
Additionally, another discussion has arisen where people believe that utility has taken over the game, and that this issue has become elevated due to Tejo. As a result, Riot will be shipping sweeping Tejo nerfs in Patch 10.09, where Riot will be pulling back his impact to where other initiators can compete.
