TenZ returns to competitive VALORANT with Cubert Academy
VALORANT fans given quite a surprise as Cubert Academy announced that Tyson "TenZ" Ngo will return to competitive play, standing in for their academy roster during the VCL 2025 - North America: Stage 2 Playoffs.
The two-time Masters champion and longtime face of North American VALORANT hasn’t played a professional match since VCT 2024 - Champions 2024, but now he’s set to make a temporary comeback with Sentinels’ academy squad..
Filling in for a Similar Role
Cubert Academy’s roster has been on a tear through the Challengers circuit. With only two losses in the Swiss stage, they’ve emerged as one of the top contenders heading into playoffs. However, their main controller, Logan "skuba" Jenkins, was recently signed by Tier 1 organization NRG - a huge move for both him and the program.
Cubert’s goal has always been to develop future Tier 1 talent, and Skuba’s graduation is proof of its success. But with playoffs looming and their controller gone, they needed an experienced replacement. Enter TenZ, a seasoned pro who has previously filled similar roles and remains closely tied to the Sentinels organization.
A Brief but Special Comeback
Though TenZ retired from competition after Champions 2024, his return, even as a stand-in, adds a level of star power and nostalgia to the playoffs. For fans, it’s a rare chance to watch one of VALORANT’s most iconic players back in action.
Whether he’s just filling in or contemplating a bigger return, all eyes will be on TenZ and Cubert Academy as they begin their playoff run.
Where to Watch
Cubert Academy will debut with TenZ today against Winthrop University at 4 pm PT | 1 am CET. Fans can catch the action live on Twitch and YouTube, with Tarik "tarik" Celik also co-streaming the match on his Twitch channel.
