Two players suspended for 36 months in relation to match-fixing
On the 22nd of September 2020, Blackbird Ignis and Resurgence went online to play their group match in the Epulze's Royal SEA Cup. Two of the players from the Resurgence team, germsg and See "Evo" Wey Kang already knew the outcome. They will lose. The reason for this was because Germsg began the scheme to bet against their own team and Dreamycsgo provided the money for the bet. The rest of the team knew about this as well even though they did not want to throw the match but they did not report this to their management or the VALORANT Esports team since they were afraid of losing their contracts or getting other penalties. Following the obvious 2-0 loss, Germsg even tried to bribe the silence of the rest of the team but they did not want anything to do with the money.
In light of this, Germsg and Dreamycsgo were found in violation of rules 7.2.1 and 7.2.4 and banned for 36 months (3 years) from competing in VCT. The ban started from April 2021 and will end by April 2024.
7.2.1 MATCH-FIXING
No Team Member may offer, agree, or conspire to fix a match or take any other action to intentionally and unfairly alter, or attempt to alter, the results of any game (or any play or component thereof). If a Team Member is asked to “fix” the outcome of a game or to otherwise take part in any actions prohibited by this Global Policy or the applicable Event-Specific Rules, that Team Member must immediately report this request to the Tournament Operator.
7.2.4 GAMBLING
Gambling on the outcome of a tournament, match or game in any esport competition (including any plays or components of a game) can pose a serious threat to the integrity of, and public confidence in, esports competitions. Team Members are not allowed to (a) place, or attempt to place, bets on any esports competition (or any plays or components thereof), or (b) associate with high volume gamblers, or deliver information to others that might influence their bets.
With regards to the rest of the team, based on their collaboration and culpability the following bans were handed as well starting from the 22nd of April:
- Justin “Boplek” Wong Chong Cheng and Sengdala “Jabtheboy” Jamnalong will be banned from VCT for 1 year
- Du Min “Mortdecai” Yeo and Benedict “benaf” Tan will be banned from VCT for 6 months
